As the BirdChan completes its re-brand, the infinitive “to tweet” nears retirement. The new term: to X-crete

Very random thought....

I am on my Windows computer so much for work that when I get off, I really just want to do something not on a computer. I realize that I now associate Windows with work and it doesn't feel like something fun or enjoyable. It doesn't feel personal to me.

I've been trying to figure out why lately I've had trouble with personal projects and perhaps this might be a small part of the answer.

India is a European word. The people living in that part of Asia never called themselves Indians. The people living in North America whom Columbus ignorantly called Indians weren't Indians either. It's just a word European powers made up for the convenience of their colonialism. There was no nation state of India until 1947, and then it took a few more years to fully unify.

Am I the only one who calls rhubarb "Devil's Celery"?

@skullvalanche I hadn't heard this but now I like it more than 'rhubarb' which is admittedly boring

You know I really hate the word “dispensing”, for no reason I can put my finger on.

Semi-related: we have a new appliance that uses this forbidden word and it has quickly become my least favourite appliance, despite “dispensing” one of my favourite items (coffee). I’m profoundly conflicted about this.

Mit jedem Grad verschlimmert sich der Reifenabrieb
@showerthoughts

KISSmyOSFeddit,

Erstmal nur sehr allmählich und in sehr geringem Ausmaß.
Aber bei 360 Grad Umfang steigt der Reifenabrieb sprunghaft an, weil der Reifen erst dann zum Fahren taugt.

The currency of life isn't money, it's options. A monk can choose to leave the meager life, a prisoner can't. Money also gives options, but so do contacts, skills, knowledge, ...

Growth means different things for people and for corporations.

Personal growth is about getting better. Not going from around 6 feet tall to 60 feet tall.

Corporate growth is always about getting bigger indefinitely.

Some first #showerthoughts on how #FOSS, being fundamentally different than #business and #government, may focus on the interfaces, formation of #F2B and #F2G relationships.

Businesses understand forging and maintaining #B2B relationships. They work well (though involving #hypercapitalism of course).

Not so when it comes to F2B. Then FOSS is just grabbed, like ore from a mine.

There can be no "supply chain" that way. Proper mutual value exchange is needed for that.

@smallcircles Thank you for sharing that!

I think too that to work together we have to be aware of the value of the other board.
And usually are not so well known by business world and by government…

But I feel that it's going to change a bit.
Like for the German Train Organization : https://opensource.deutschebahn.com/opensource-en with Cornelius Schumacher ( he worked at ) and Max Mehl ( he worked at ).
I like it!!! 🤩

Kojarzycie Świat Dysku Terrego Pratcheta? I Vimesa komentdanta straży miejskiej Ankh Morpork?

No więc Pratchet ustami Vimesa stworzył ciekawą teorię nierówności społecznej (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boots_theory) w skrócie:
