@AaronDavid@jrconlin "takes over" is accurate to neither the movie nor the novel, HAL was explicitly given the exclusive control over the most important aspects of the mission.
This just happens to be a remarkably unwise decision as the slightly Asimovian contradiction of priorities unfolds.
I quibble because the prediction is not "AI goes crazy and takes over", it's "people believe untrue things about an AI, enshrine it, and people die as a result"
