Children's Games- Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1560), oil on wood (lemmy.world)

[Pieter Bruegel] was a formative influence on Dutch Golden Age painting and later painting in general in his innovative choices of subject matter, as one of the first generation of artists to grow up when religious subjects had ceased to be the natural subject matter of painting. He also painted no portraits, the other mainstay...

AceFuzzLord,

Wow. Didn’t expect to see this picture again. Haven’t seen it since highschool history class.

AceFuzzLord,

I don’t condone it, but I’ve done something similar once in a Boy Scouts meeting as a scout. Had sandals on and I don’t remember the full meeting, but at one point we were chopping wood with an axe. I did it, but that’s not my brightest move. There was also a time where I was getting my metalworking badge and entered the forge one time for a kinda free time work on your project thing with shorts on by mistake. Nobody stopped me in either case. This wasn’t pre-2000s, so I’m not sure how I got away with either event considering safety is usually taken much more seriously nowadays.

AceFuzzLord,

Depends on the game. As great as retro games are, I could never give up newer indie titles like Baba Is You or Brok The Investigator, which would be much shorter games or have other problems if they were made for consoles pre-internet games download days.

Though I will say that retro games like Sonic 1 & 2 on Genesis or Ratchet and Clank on PS2 are pretty much infinitely better than the triple AAA slop they’re throwing at us today.

Especially when we have companies (like sweet baby inc.) forcing characters to be changed to Mary Sue’s all because we need inclusivity. I have no problems with inclusivity at all, but I have a major problem with poorly written characters in games that have absolutely nothing going for them besides being perfect.

AceFuzzLord,

A little bit of Crash N. Sane trilogy and starting a new run of Fallout New Vegas on hard difficulty hardcore mode, alongside more slogging through Baba Is You.

Never completed a single run on the games I’ve played in the Fallout series, yet for some reason I decided to start another playthrough and do hardcore mode for the first time because clearly I hate myself. Currently maybe 5-6 levels in and it ain’t easy compared to the really cool melee build save on my desktop.

AceFuzzLord,

From what I understand, it’s a platform where you can create games and monetize them by doing things like adding subscriptions, item or ability shops, add access fees, etcetera, that require real world money to be exchanged for them. Though, I think it could also be robux, but I wouldn’t know because I avoid that service like the plague.

There’s a whole entire webpage dedicated to this monetization thing that’s out in the open, if you wanna read it.

AceFuzzLord,

Anyone have any objections or anything negative to say about snapdrop(dot)net besides maybe anyone on the same network could try to connect to you?

AceFuzzLord,

What exactly do you mean by cartoon cartoons?

If you just mean animated cartoons in general by that, I’m going with Angry Beavers, Franklin (was on Noggin where I live, the venture between the owners of Nickelodeon (MTV Networks) and Sesame Workshop, so I count it as Nickelodeon preschool edition), Summer Camp Island, Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron, and Dofus: Aux Trésors de Kerubim. As my current top 5 (in no particular order).

AceFuzzLord,

Summer Camp Island. Came out in 2018 for a single season before more seasons came into being. A bunch of anthro animal kids (main cast around 11-ish if I remember correctly) go to a summer camp on an island that turns out to be run by 3 witches.

In the later seasons, they start adding in more lore for the island, the inhabitants, and even a bit for the campers. Definitely a 180 from the likes of the shows you picked, but it’s a recommendation.

AceFuzzLord,

Ooooooooh… That totally slipped my mind…

AceFuzzLord,

Analog stick. Most of the time I end up finding that the dpad on my 360 controller doesn’t feel as good to me compared to as an analog stick. That, and the majority of games I used to play growing up used analog stick for movement, so it’s engrained in me.

United Healthcare Introduces Ear Infection Loyalty Card named “Infectious Rewards” (lemmy.world)

United Healthcare, one of the largest health insurance providers in the US, recently introduced a new loyalty program targeting families with children who are prone to ear infections. The program, called “Infectious Rewards,” promises to give a free coffee mug to parents whose children experience 7 or more ear infections in...

AceFuzzLord,

Where was that when I was a baby?

Edit: didn’t realize this is satire…

Last time I tried this, on Android, it was miserable. Here’s hoping that version isn’t a mess and you can actually play it. Months and months of updates and work has surely made it less of a janky mess, right?

Edit: someone found a version on Google Play, but I was definitely talking about an open source version on GitHub. Wanted to make a distinction in case someone thought for whatever reason I was talking about some shitty nostalgia bait mobile port.

AceFuzzLord,

The way I see it is Android users are Linux users the same way fans of games who have only played the spin-off games are to people who have played the mainline games. They’re just a different kind of fan.

AceFuzzLord,

I hope they, at the very least, start something like an I2P website or some other presumably safer alternative than a normal webpage if they go after their site.

AceFuzzLord,

Hell yeah! Good on them. Let’s hope Sintendo doesn’t find out about this.

AceFuzzLord,

As a Plants vs Zombies fan, I tried PvZ Online during what was the final year. Same thing with the Yahoo Games Battle Cats.

Two browser games I gave up on after realizing they’d be closing the servers long before I could finish adventure mode in PvZ Online or get anywhere significant in Battle Cats.

If you could take a single character out of a piece of media (book, film, TV show, video game, etc) who would it be?

They would lose any magical powers they may have had in the book, but anything they are, rather than can do, will stay. For example people from the His Dark Materials world would keep their daemons. You can take them out at any time in the story’s plot, but for all other people consuming the media, it will be shown that the...

I don’t know if it counts, but if I had enough radiation protection, I’d say Urayne from Pokemon Uranium just after you defeat it for the last time and are given it alongside the core that allows it to essentially live forever. Though, I assume by that point you wouldn’t need radiation protection considering you never see the player character pull out the advanced radiation suit when you gain access to use him in battle.

Don’t know if doing something like the one time Curie did that quantum leap would count as a magical power, but imagine how cool it’d be to be able to teleport anywhere (depending on if quantum leap has no limits on distance) for free.

Also, I’m sure this would count as a magical power, but unlimited nuclear energy for free would be amazing.

AceFuzzLord,

Jesus! The worst I ever had was in 9th grade biology I accidentally broke a couple test tubes. I couldn’t imagine burning or cutting myself by accident or having a near death experience. 4th period would be my type of class because I wouldn’t feel comfortable at all anywhere near the other periods if they’re all getting injured.

AceFuzzLord,

One of my biggest complaints with the switch is definitely how my hands are too big for me to be truly comfortable with holding them when they’re disconnected from the console. Either one in each hand or one for both hands. That, and I think the batteries in my joycons are a little screwed, so I just said fuck it and got a controller because the last few times I used my switch was connected to a TV.

AceFuzzLord,

At least if he does lose, there will hopefully be a riot squad waiting at the capital in case his threat comes true. It’s what I’d do just in case he loses. In fact, it’d be the first thing I do! At the very least, if they don’t come immediately within the first week after the election, just have them on standby just in case they eventually show up, ready to perform treason.

AceFuzzLord,

Not a game, but Class of 3000 has one of my favorite jazz songs: My Mentor

AceFuzzLord,

I think the only times I’ve ever personally dealt with that was when a wired mouse was slowly moving because the wire was dragging it. No idea about any other problems that could caus it.

AceFuzzLord, (edited )

For listening, it’s either on Auxio on my phone (files on device over streaming), a few yt playlists that have some of my favorite songs (some downloaded, some not). That, or I have a few songs on NewPipe history that aren’t saved anywhere else.

On my desktop, I use either Strawberry Music Player for my audio files and VLC for CDs (I have less than 10, but that’s besides the point). Some of those CDs for some reason will just shut off after a few minutes into certain songs if I try to play it on the '92 Sony CDMan. I think it’s just an issue with the CDs more than the CD player itself.

As for how I discover new music, it’s usually from yt recommendations based on what I listen to, whatever catches my eyes. That or maybe it’s music I find on OpenGameArt or maybe I’m looking up something like a certain vocaloid song on VocaDB or yt or on rare occasion NicoVideo and finding a cover of it or another song from the original producer.

Edit: Sony Discman, not CdMan

AceFuzzLord,

I was gonna say something about needing powerful hardware before I realized the game I was gonna reference as an example was nothing but rushed out code held together by dollar store glue.

AceFuzzLord,

I didn’t know what I was expecting, but that felt just a little disappointing. Still pretty interesting to look at, though.
