I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are about games with federated servers and server browsers

I'm looking into developing a matchmaking backend for a (peer-to-peer) game I'm working on. Ideally, I'd like to design the system to survive beyond official development of the game (security patches not withstanding). And if possible make the backend plug-and-play for other multiplayer games.

Instead of one singular "official" server browsing backend. You can log into / subscribe to multiple both official and community hosted server lists. And I'd like to make hosting a server browser backend as simple as possible.

Has this sort of thing been done before? If so are there any projects out there you can point me too?

If you make assets, avatars, or packs of stuff for other creatives

doesn't matter if it's free or sold

please, please, please try to include a copy of the license and links back to your pages in your downloads!

be it a readme, a text file with link in it, or whatever

it makes it so much easier for the people using your work to catalog them and refer back to it's license or browse your new content

(i usually have to manually take manual note of that stuff when adding stuff to my personal asset library)

if only there were a way people could individually host small pockets of social media pockets of social media platforms that all intercommunicted independent of a cental authority

made a little virtual plantscape in my goldenhart spa world

inspired by serpa designs, but made as a gift for my incredible gf

In a bare tiled area a small planter box with smal trees, jagged rockscapes and furns sit's collecting the sun and rain.

definetly proud of myself for pulling my head out of my ass and just using public models

it would otherwise take me years of mastery to make models of this quality by hand, and would ultimately cap quality the level of content I could make.

if you wanna get into anything 3D related PLEASE look into them

they are lifechanging, and all or at least mostly CC0, or as close to public domain as you can physically get with licensing

forgot to mention, if you need sounds and have zero budget;

sonniss has publicly licensed batches of sounds given out at some of the previous year's GDCs

they aren't CC0 or public domain, but they are privately licensed to anyone who wants them 100% for free

(they aren't free to share around publicly but they are free to download, use and distribute within shipped products, license pdf is in the downloads)
