lol. Shelter wouldn't let us take home fosters (in a hard shell carrier) in the #CargoBike because "it's too dangerous". I even deflated the tires a bit for this, for a smoother ride.
[for background, every cat I've ever dealt with has been terrified in a car. They hate the speed, and the loud engine/vibrations. It's one of the reasons I started transporting my former cats by bike.]
@VCP Yeah, this foster would also transport to us, but it's also 15 mins away by bike. I thought that would be more convenient than having to deal with random volunteers doing car stuff who may or may not show up on time. Apparently not. ๐คท
What was especially frustrating was that I warned them I'd show up by (cargo) bike, and the person I talked to was okay with that. Another person there was also okay with it, it was only a third person who was like, "you can't do that."
However, there's no obvious line that I can see, so maybe there's a tiny bit of life left in this. But it's not really worth the risk, as this is a front wheel (dynamo hub) and so rim failure would be catastrophic.
edit: also, I hate that this has a line that's supposed to appear when it's worn, rather than a line or dot that disappears when worn. And kudos to everyone ignoring my dumb pun in the OT. Don't encourage me!
@EverydayMoggie@enobacon You can swap out the front fork for one that has disc brake tabs. But also, he's just kidding.
This is a 90's cannondale, I've actually considered disc brakes but just not worth it. I'm waiting for something critical to break, and then my wife will upgrade to a bike w/ disc brakes.
This toot brought to you by the car-disaster that is #AustinSt in #ForestHills. I was biking on 70th Rd to get to Austin St, which has angled back-in parking because hey why not? Someone was parking, so of course there was a line of 4 cars that I was passing when the driver of one of the cars starts laying on the horn impatiently as I was literally a foot away next to the car. I made the mistake of not wearing headphones. Must remember to always wear headphones when biking in NYC.
Summer is almost upon us, and Canada is already on fire, so I guess it's time to share this again: my guide to the dangers of smoke, why you really don't want to breathe it, and how to get your air purifier situation set up before the smoke comes.
@susankayequinn FYI, your estimate for CR box filters are about double what they should be. Home Depot reliably sells 20x20 MERV-13* filters for $20-$25 individually, but if you buy in bulk (4 or more), they're half the cost. And if you're buying for a CR box, you're buying in bulk. That puts your filter replacement costs at $50 rather than $100. That's a general trend - bulk filters are cheaper.
they list them as "FPR 10" and "FPR 12"; both are labeled MERV-13 equivalent
Feeling freshly confident about how easy it was to carry 2 kegs, I arranged for 3 kegs on todayโs pick up and honestly it might have been a bad idea. As I walked my bike through the farmers market I pushed the bars hard to turn and the bars went and the wheel didnโt. There I was with 160 lbs of kombucha on my bike and handlebars twisting on the steer tube without moving the front wheel.
Wow. And #Ebay is not refunding this (or rather, the seller is not refunding and ebay is sticking by the seller). The seller provided "proof of delivery", which is that tracking information.
I buy tons of stuff through ebay, under the assumption that when shit like this happens, I get my money back. I guess if that's no longer true, I'm no longer an ebay customer.
