Babadofar,

@forteller takk for tips! 💻

Here's a fun AI story: a security researcher noticed that large companies' AI-authored source-code repeatedly referenced a nonexistent library (an AI "hallucination"), so he created a (defanged) malicious library with that name and uploaded it, and thousands of developers automatically downloaded and incorporated it as they compiled the code:

Babadofar,

@pluralistic thanks for sharing. That's a very good summary explanation of the challenges of AI /Llm.
It's going back to the question of what is truth. Can we trust AI with important decisions.

Am I the only one who unequivocally thinks that philosophy has made progress? Perhaps I have a different definition of what progress means, but surely I can't be the only one?

The number of theories and arguments that philosophers uncovered, as well as the clarity and breadth of their analyses, is certainly progress.

@philosophy @academicchatter

Babadofar,

@slowenough @ninokadic @DominikDammer @philosophy @academicchatter philosophy of course made progress, in giving birth to all the rest of science. On the other hand, certain things will always be true, and on those questions there has been no progress.

I'm basically working under the assumption that any AI legislation that does not begin by banning commercial use of the misleading term "AI" is going to be fatally flawed

Babadofar,

@mcc Yes I agree! One day somebody will figure that intelligence is more than a statistical probability. 👼

René says, “I think not,” then disappears.

Babadofar,

@glynmoody this reads like a sci-fi horror story "While ineffective, European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson’s proposal does mean an end to private digital conversations for everyone and, for obvious reasons, is incompatible with the right to privacy and freedom of communication..."
"(the eu commissioner) commissioned a paid advertising campaign on X (formerly Twitter) targeting countries that did not want to vote for the current proposal"

Good morning folks... today we're launching our new (free, browser-based) game Trust & Safety Tycoon. Please go check it out. Everyone thinks they know how trust & safety should work, but very few have actually done the job. Now's your chance! https://trustandsafety.fun/

Babadofar,

@mmasnick very cool game!

Babadofar,

@lupposofi @krishnadeltoso @philosophy @startupnews @cogsci well if you consider how present day AI works, it feeds upon existing texts made by humans. If anything it would increase the anthropomorphic focus. But it's a very interesting thought. How can we feed animal thought process into AI?

Had a sad realization the other day.

I love occasionally explaining repeating tasks in pseudo . E.g.

  1. do x.
  2. do y
  3. GOTO 1

No-one learns basic anymore. Most folks can follow what i've said but they don't actually know why i said GOTO. and they don't know why that really would have been written 10, 20, 30 instead of 1, 2, 3.

1/?

Babadofar,

@masukomi https://www.hedycode.com/ this looks like a nice way for kids to learn coding, gradually introducing the complexiy

Babadofar,

@masukomi IMHO knowing just a little bit about programming is a must to survive in this digital world. I'd say also knowing how machine learning and Llm work but that's a bit of a stretch, and in many cases people know it and still mistake it for the same thinking process us humans use, so. That's another discussion:).

Babadofar,

@masukomi exactly!
