What is your experience with pkms? (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Did you see a significant productivity increase? Did your motivation to work on long projects change? Did it help you get over roadblocks in long project? (I tend to lose motivation whenever I struggle to make progress for more than 3 hours in a row.) How do you decide what goes inside of the system and what doesn't? (we have...

Calixthe,

@Cevilia @AnneKitsune Do you have any requirements? There are some amazing free apps, offline first with free sync like https://acreom.com/ which is geared to coding and long form writing and off-line first open source https://affine.pro/ which is a replacement

If you don't want to have to do any customizations and are ok with online, there's @capacities which has robust free options and https://tana.inc/ and https://anytype.io/

Calixthe,

@Cevilia Sounds like you might like integration. Two apps come to mind, https://reflect.app/ https://nitter.net/reflectnotes which has AI integration, very focused workspace with , but still lots of functions like backlinks. The other is https://www.craft.do/ https://nitter.net/craftdocsapp @craftdocsapp @craftdocsapp it also has markdown, backlinks, and an AI integration. It has a very broad workspace and lots of templates.

Calixthe,

@PsychrolutesMarcidus They have a really active Discord community, and I'm guessing they might address it if you mention it to them. Here's the link: https://discord.gg/kCGeBVGt Especially since this tool is aimed at other developers.

Calixthe,

@PsychrolutesMarcidus If you run it from the browser does it still use as much RAM? I've seen a lot of people post that they hate Electron apps, but I didn't fully understand why. Thank you for explaining. 😊

The prodigal son 😺

A week after his return, has regained a lot of his lost weight & as his facial demeanour might suggest, is fully enjoying being served on hand & foot 🤷‍♂️

And to be honest, we’re only too happy to do so 🙇‍♂️

Calixthe,

@markmccaughrean sounds like you too got a ending. 🥰

For the users - If the following was said, would it make you think twice?

Offline mode - Nothing is planned. Priority is collaboration and integration with other tools etc. Some very limited offline capability may be possible in the future.

Calixthe,

@ednico It has an amazing interface, but I think those of us used to or or are too used to off-line first. I will still keep learning and using it though, just not as primary or only place to hold my data.

Calixthe,

@rscottjones @ednico Have you considered https://affine.pro or https://anytype.io ? Both are open source and offline first.

I know that importing from into another tool may be formidable, but these two seem to be appealing to Notion users and support imports from Notion.

just announced an upgrade to their Notion import capacity as well. https://affine.pro/blog/what-is-new-affine-0620

Calixthe,

@milan To be quite honest, I can't even remember how I heard of them but I think once I saw local first/open source plus their mission to replace they had my attention. I know Notion is hugely popular online only app so I'm interested to see where they go with . I'm also a wee bit guilty of loving to discover new software that's local first/open source with a robust free tier. I also love software that's single purchase to own like or or

WIth Reddit self-destructing, many have been wondering about alternatives on the Fediverse.

I do NOT recommend Lemmy. I have serious long-standing deep concerns about the developers, see here: https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379

As far as I know, nothing has changed since then and Lemmy's issues remain.

Alternatively there's Kbin (https://kbin.social & https://kbin.pub) which seems less problematic. Regarding cryptocurrency issue: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediparty/pulls/97#issuecomment-663170
