But, moving from a free form like to an outliner seems to me a bit of a hassle.

Do you use the both? Do you prefer one over the other?

Calixthe,

@geffrey I think is a beautiful piece of software, but my brain is wired for style namespacing. Linking and organizing notes in one action is easier for me. I can't wrap my mind around a folder structure. I still keep Obsidian updated and ready to go because it's just beautiful and has lots of possibilities.Of course it took me learning them together to decide on LogSeq even before I knew why I ended up with LogSeq. I have been trying to write out why works for me when I have been an user for three years, and I think I have hit upon identifying why - it has to do with the different sizes of the thoughts. A description of what Tana does for me, reflections on what this means for the theory of what we are trying to solve with and especially then, and what it means for design...

A new post in the blog! https://woertergarten.medium.com/kleinvieh-macht-auch-mist-managing-small-things-with-tana-531873c044aa Share your thoughts

Calixthe,

@spinningthoughts :ablobwave: I think your essay is great. I love using @tana_inc as well as @obsidianmd & @logseq . While is primary, I understand that I can get certain things done more efficiently in other apps. It's not as if I can store any files in Tana. I use Tana to help manage specific tasks/actions. It's great. I have recently started using it for certain notes. None of these apps can replace each other and the "all or nothing" approach some people have is confusing. @pkm

The new 40 update is huge. Nested/tags mean that Drafts can now be used as an organized app much like , in addition to all the things that make Drafts a genuinely unique app.

And hooray! There’s now a command palette, as there should be in every app now.

Calixthe,

@EpiphanicSynchronicity Thank you for pointing this out. It's a very useful tool to have available.

I am excited about the nested tags. I think lots of people use @drafts on the go because it's snappy, reliable & good at what it does. It has lots of hidden gems of functionality and I think they should toot their own horn more.

I appreciate apps on their own merit and don't need them to try to become another app. Progress should be a natural path. @pkm @pkm @pkm @obsidianmd @logseq

Excited about the https://parazettel.com/ product too! Saves lots of work for setting up an vault.

Believe it or not, the vault structure was my biggest obstacle in using Obsidian.

As a result I've over-linked everything in my vault.

This gives my "namespacing" brain 😅 some direction and guidance.

When the hunter becomes the prey. My new novel ‘The High Road’ is a fast-paced contemporary thriller set mainly in central Scotland and the far north-west.

Sandwood Bay in north-west Sutherland has an important part to play in the story as it develops, and the book reaches its climax nearby.

3.0 was released today. I’’m looking forward to trying it as a general markdown editor to supplement , because you can use .md files anywhere in your system, not just in folders designated as vaults. https://github.com/Zettlr/Zettlr/releases/tag/v3.0.0

Calixthe,

@EpiphanicSynchronicity In the spirit of your earlier comments about being able to open your @obsidian notes in any markdown editor, the venerable https://www.notebooksapp.com/mac/ is on sale (directly from them). I don't know much about the app, but it seems rather elegant and has some great features re: internal links, wikilinks, backlinks, link management, free iCloud or DropBox sync, opens fdx files, etc. I am not affiliated, just fascinated by @pkm @pkm @pkm

The whole piece is spectacular, but this bit in particular is just a perfect illustration of the axiom that the amount of effort required to refute bullshit is orders of magnitude greater than the effort required to produce it. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/aug/26/naomi-klein-naomi-wolf-conspiracy-theories

“You can’t pick up human energy in the same way, like the energy field is just almost not there, it’s like people are holograms … It’s like a city of ghosts now, you’re there, you see them, but you can’t feel them.” And she had noticed something even more bizarre: “People [who are vaccinated] have no scent any more. You can’t smell them. I’m not saying like, they don’t smell bad or they don’t smell – like I’m not talking about deodorant. I’m saying they don’t smell like there’s a human being in the room, and they don’t feel like there’s a human being in the room.” This, she explained to the host, was all due to the “lipid nanoparticles” in the mRNA vaccines, since they “go into the brain, they go into the heart, and they kind of gum it up”. Perhaps even the “wavelength which is love” was experiencing this “gumming up … dialing down its ability to transmit”. She concluded, “That’s how these lipid nanoparticles work.” That is not how lipid nanoparticles work. It is not how vaccines work. It is not how anything works. Also, and I can’t quite believe I am typing these words, vaccinated people still smell like humans.

Hey PKMers. Let’s learn from each other.

  • When do you link notes? Late night sessions? During "eureka" moments?
  • Why link them? What's your goal?
  • New thought = new note + link?
  • Any note-linking rituals, phases or steps you go through?
  • Tools/plugins to find novel connections?

Curious about your methods. Share if you can!

Calixthe,

@geffrey I link everything using the format available in the app. E.g., in @anytypelabs I @ everything back to a main page and to any related pages, in @logseq I use namespace-ing with intuitive ordered root topics, in @capacities I copy/paste object references, @ or embed related items (even though their system links things pretty well anyway & links items to dates created and/or mentioned), in @tana_inc I use for ea. project &/or task. & NO, I don't upload any content to .

Calixthe,

@geffrey @anytypelabs @logseq @capacities @tana_inc I do it when I am making the entry because depending on which tool I am using (and for which purpose I am using it), I don't spend time searching. The tool I use depends on which computer or device I am using, what is the OS (Mac OS, iPad/iPhone OS, Android or Linux), what connectivity I have (because Uni Wi-Fi is meh) and what I am working on. I believe in redundancy and I don't know how or even if I can even upload anything to @tana_inc 😂

Hey guys! I built this app called Fleeting Notes that makes it easy to take quick notes into Obsidian. Would love some feedback if you have any :)

Calixthe,

@ithinkwong I think your app is a great way to get notes into @obsidian especially for people who can't use it on their work computers. Tagging @obsidianmd the group on Mastodon, so it will get re-posted to everyone who follows that group. Everyone who follows or (because you can also follow hashtags on Mastodon) might also see these posts. Glad to see on Mastodon https://www.fleetingnotes.app/ (FWIW I am just a customer glad to see them here). @obsidianmd

has a 'demo graph', where you can open your local graph in the browser. Does anyone know if there's a way to do the same, or something similar, in ?

I'd like to be able to open certain pages, in the browser, for quick access and or editing.

Calixthe,

@toran You can add to @obsidian @obsidianmd using and store those notes within the app (also available as a browser extension or PWA). The notes are written directly into your vault and live in their own folder with front matter, but you cannot access non-FA notes that are already in the vault. I am not affiliated with Fleeting Notes, but I like their product a lot and it is a great way to add notes on the go or when you only have browser access and can't install Obsidian.

I don't know if there are many Obsidian users here who use both the macOS and iOS apps and sync between them with iCloud.

Had an "incident" today whereby I lost an hour of work, because my iPhone struggled to do an iCloud sync and instead just overwrote a document with the older version.

I'm wondering if there are better solutions to syncing reliably than iCloud.

Calixthe,

@heliomass I'm sorry for your data loss. For both @obsidian @obsidianmd and @logseq I only use them on my desktop even though I've got icloud sync set up. For on the go I use @drafts or @capacities with Anytype being my mobile preference. I'm usually looking up information and not adding to it, plus I use locked pages in Anytype to avoid accidentally changing or erasing while accessing mobile. Anytype and Capacities are only used for specific things. LogSeq is for everything.

Please boost for a wider demographic.

Calixthe,

@dancinyogi Caveat: I "learned" on real typewriter, had a typewriter at home to practice but I'm still a horribly slow typist and I cannot/do not type properly. I don't think I ever mastered touch typing. I think typing might have been a high school class and I am not sure of my final grade. Doing research and realizing that unfortunately messes one thing up - backlinks and mentions render the inline content that contains the link.

The way SiYuan models pages, lists of any kind are structural objects that attach inline content.

That means while you can write outliner-style lists in SiYuan, the context of that list, especially child bullets, doesn‘t automatically come along like it happens in - or .

Calixthe,

@brandonbutler @spinningthoughts Have you considered using both? With things like @cogsciapps integration, I could not resist @capacities and use it for very specific things. @logseq has much broader foundational uses. I'm a big believer in avoiding all or nothing thinking, you don't have to pick just one. I also believe in redundancy. So I download daily backups of my Capacities content where it lives in my @obsidian @obsidianmd vault. Learning more than one tool is 🤩
