I just got hearing aids

I have had tinnitus in one ear for about five year. It is combined with higher frequency hearing loss. The audiologist said that when your brain detects the loss of those high frequency it tries to fill it in with a tone

Yesterday I was talking to a maker of custom church organs. He said that the low notes have harmonics in the high frequencies. So even low notes, for me, are missing their harmonics

I’m trying to decide how to carve my pumpkin this year. I’m feeling uninspired. Last year I did a Dia De Los Muertos-style skull. Other years I have done a cyberman and other various geeky things. What ideas do my clever Masto-folks have?

I’m pondering perhaps an octopus, to go with Sammie, but it seems quite tough… I could do a sugar skull again. Or Winifred Sanderson… What say you?

M15 brought an enormous stick to the nest. I scanned through the videos on YouTube, and it looks like they're squabbling a bit over stick placement. This is normal. Eagle pairs often disagree over how to place sticks, how much fluff to use in the nest bole, etc. Sounds vaguely familiar to anyone who's married or has shared a home with someone!

Some personal #TransJoy : been working on upping my nail polish game, and so I've been experimenting with nail polish stamps the past few months - and I think I am finally getting the hang of it!

I could never pull off nail art freehand of any sort, but a friend had suggested I try nail stamping where you put polish onto a design on a metal plate, then press the stamp to it transfer the pattern, and then apply the stamp to your nail. It took some practice to get it just right, and getting some stamping-specific polish and well-designed plates has made these really pop I think

I planned to go for a run after work but I am just so exhausted. I thought I was fine but lack of sleep has just hit me like a ton of bricks. Instead of getting my running gear on I’ve crept into a hot bath, and I’ve got clean PJs ready to put on when I get out. I just feel the need to be very gentle with myself. I had a great afternoon work-wise, I finished a third draft of the journal article I was waiting for my former manager to work on that I have now taken back to finish/submit solo. I’ve identified the journal I plan to submit to and formatted my manuscript accordingly. Now Tom is going to read through it to see if it makes sense to a non-criminologist, as it draws on academic theory but is aimed at justice practitioners. No wonder I’m tired.

Thinking back to when I worked in HR and the ridiculous employee handbook. FT employees were entitled to two 15-minute breaks, that only smokers took. If an employee worked through lunch, they were a 'team player.' If they took lunch, they were given more to do because they clearly had too much time on their hands. Staying late was expected, but leaving on time was frowned upon. You ALWAYS had to look busy.
Employee burnout is a badge of honor, and the 'badge' is merely keeping your job.

I gotta tell you, as a Virgo who has to have things in their place, these last six weeks have been a lesson in trying to break that particular Virgo trait. Boxes everywhere, nothing where it should be, everything sort of a mess, for weeks on end.

It's. Driving. Me. Crazy.😱 🤪

I am appeasing myself by making sure that at least the boxes are stacked neatly. 😢

1. Finally fixed an instrument interface that had been plaguing me for a month.
2. Came out to a fellow trans coworker, and he was really great about it!
3. Walked into a pet food store and one of the college aged employees immediately tells me how much she loves my outfit and how cute my shoes were. That was...unexpected. 😊
