@Wraithe Sharing just my own story, because I was in a similar place to you. My intent is just to share my experience, not argue against the article or anything.

Fwiw, that is how I felt for a long time too. I did a fair amount of research because my eyesight was so bad and I couldn’t wear contacts, and wearing glasses made some things I enjoy (swimming, etc) difficult. What I read was that complication rates are pretty darn high for the shopping mall “buy one get one free” LASIK type docs. And that’s mostly because they don’t turn people away who shouldn’t be getting it. And the rates are much lower for docs who are really good and are willing to say “this isn’t right for you.” I finally bit the bullet and went to a very well regarded doc in Chicago. He was super clear that he would tell me if he thought in any way my eyes weren’t a good candidate for it. He recommended PRK instead of lasik due to my eye shape. It went well and has totally changed my life. I do have some very mild side effects (eyes are slightly drier and lights at night have a slight star effect). But those don’t get in the way of my life.

I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Suggestions from the awesome Bookstodon community? @bookstodon

@the_etrain @michelestrider I spent about a year hiding my flintstones vitamin. My mom would give it to me, I would pop it in my mouth, then go hide behind a sofa. When we moved out of that house, years later, they discovered a little pile of flintstones vitamins back there 🤣🤣

Calling upon the FEDI HIVEMIND: I need suggestions on medium to shorter hairstyles that can accommodate a sweeping bang that hides the hairline.

I am getting tired of longer hair and want to get a shorter cut than I do now, but most of the shorter haircuts that look cute or hot on queer gals like me rely upon a full hairline, which I do not have at all. What could I try instead?

The promise of sustenance was indeed a temporary reprieve. Never have I seen lasagna and ice cream be devoured so swiftly. It is as though a swarm has moved through the kitchen.

The shrieks of their social rituals reached a pitch such that I feared my ears would bleed. I have lured them into a den-like area with a tale of high school social status told through song. I hope this lulls them into some kind of relaxed trance after their feast.

The swarm’s interest in the tale was short lived. Soon the pounding of feet filled the air again. I feared the worst. Fortunately, eventually even their incredible energy began to wane, burned out on sugar and adrenaline. They have perhaps settled a bit for the night. I’m beginning to think I may make it out of this. But the night is so long. Will I see the dawn? Will this be my last missive? I pray not, good souls. Wait. It’s silent. Perhaps…a little too silent. No. No! What’s that noi…

As the first gray streaks of dawn began to light up the sky I breathed a sigh of relief. It was nearly over. I had done it. Soon, the creatures’ elder’s would arrive to carry them away and the ritual would be complete. I survived. I made it.

Actually the tween sleepover went just fine. Yes, there was LOTS of shrieking, Taylor Swift, and how can such small people make such loud thumping sounds when they run?? But they were all good kids and the sleeping part went okay. 😆
