BlueSky appears to be down, or at least I can’t load the web ui. I suppose if the goal is to be Twitter then the two main things to emulate are learning why moderation is important step by brutal step, and the fail whale, and they’re on that in spades

@sil I think it’s more a “mods are asleep” vibe. When moderation gets better it’ll calm down. What worries me though is there doesn’t appear to be a particularly clear strategy for moderation.

@sil yeah the labelling etc is very much going to place the labour on the vulnerable. I’m not convinced this is the best way to go.

My initial impression of (BS), as a new user, is not positive regarding content. Seems to be much like the content aspects of I mostly don't like. Technically it seems OK for now, but no post editing I can see, which is a big minus.

    All of the posts on Mastodon about how the Blue Sky team was silly for releasing a social media network in 2023 without blocking and moderation, even in private beta, and that the Blue Sky team should have known what would happen...

    ...are being written on Mastodon: a social media platform that in 2023, still doesn't take into account that Black users face a disproportionate amount of very specific types of abuse, and is missing key features that would make the Black population safer. 🙂🙃

    @mekkaokereke I feel like this is maybe partly directed at me and I just want to say that I’m also highly critical of mastodon too! I agree that they need to sort this out as well, and the discussion around it was handled poorly. We can be critical of multiple things at once 😅

    @glyph @mekkaokereke @runewake2 @seldo couldn’t have said it better myself. The design philosophy they have has all of the wrong priorities. I really hope they don’t “win” the current social media wars.
