There are safety rules about e-bike batteries, but they are widely flaunted and not enforced.

" Records obtained by THE CITY reveal widespread disregard of summonses for retailing batteries without safety certification. Scofflaws range from Amazon, Best Buy and Target to corner e-bike shops across the five boroughs. "

https://www.thecity.nyc/2024/05/16/ebike-shops-flout-ban-batteries-fire/

E-bikes are transportation, and need - and deserve - the same level of safety scrutiny and enforcement as cars.

Everyone is talking about building very large #batteries for energy storage, for when the sun doesn't shine or the wind doesn't blow. Turns out, that is the most expensive solution. There are faster solutions that yield money.

"Lovins and many other #EnergyEfficiency experts have spent decades pointing out that an integrated system approach that focuses as much or more on consumption than supply will be so much cheaper than the current approach focused on supply."

Lovins is pointing out that there is a large range of options to build flexibility in the grid, and some of them are fast and negative dollars (i.e., saves money, in the long run).

“Today’s exponential battery growth could get global power over 60% of the way to net zero, but that’s not the only option. The first two boxes on the left, negawatts and flexiwatts, are both several fold bigger than had been thought, yet cheaper. "

"#SouthAustralia and #California signed a letter of cooperation on Thursday, to advance their “shared leadership” in renewable energy and clean hydrogen technology.

The two states will also work together on strategies to advance electrification, grid flexibility, demand response, and vehicle-to-grid technologies, all of which are considered crucial to make the best use of distributed energy resources including rooftop solar and batteries in homes and electric vehicles."

To stabilise the price, the Biden admin has announced it will buy crude (to replenish the strategic reserves) whenever the price is between $67 and $72 a barrel. This would "set a floor under prices that would help U.S. producers, as well as a ceiling that would avoid pain at the pump."

5 takeaways from Biden's tariff hikes on Chinese electric vehicles

"Biden wants to cut emissions in a specific way, which is why EVs and other clean industries are getting both giant subsidies and protectionist tariffs.
