"A U.N. tribunal on maritime law said Tuesday that countries are legally required to reduce #GreenhouseGas pollution, delivering a long-awaited opinion sought by small island nations that are on the front lines of #ClimateChange.

The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea found that carbon #emissions qualify as marine pollution and said countries must take steps to mitigate and adapt to their adverse effects."

Experts: What are the biggest risks to action in 2024?

"More than 50 countries, accounting for half of the global population, are going to the polls, with high levels of political uncertainty across many of the world’s largest economies.

Additionally, ongoing conflicts, extreme weather events, trade disputes and resource competition are contributing to geopolitical volatility."

Smelting Without Fossil Fuels: Power Shatters the 1,000°C Barrier for Industrial Heating

Maybe it's an efficiency thing.
Maybe it's just a cool new tech. After all, when DVDs were invented we didn't really need them, either, as we already had ways to play recorded music.

Like I said, this is still in the lab, it remains to be seen if it can be scaled up, and cheaply enough, to compete.

A Vast, Untapped Source of Lithium Has Just Been Found in The US

Mackey and his colleagues have now found that when wastewater is dredged up from the deep by #fracking activities, it contains an astonishing amount of lithium."

There are a lot of spurious myths surrounding the proposed solar farms, but a large part of the opposition stems from real concern over the loss of farmland. It seems to me that advocates for agrivoltaics have their jobs cut out for them in farming communities.

@paul

I've read about that misinformation campaign, it's mounted by the same people who spread lies that offshore wind turbines kill whales (Spoiler: it's shipping that kills whales).

But also it's disconcerting to see how many people fall for those lies.

Agrivoltaics is an example of a positive narrative: many farmers even get higher yields with the PV than without, because of the partial shading, and tiltable ones let your machines work in between.

CelloMomOnCars,
