Let's get this @academicchatter moving with a question every academic can chime in on:

What are the top websites/blogs you go to for news of what's going on in your field?

Cosmosis,

@ml @academicchatter I mean, it might sound basic, but for art history I check the ArtHist-Net list serv and review the ToC for each issue of The Art Journal.

The only recognition I got this Teacher Appreciation Week was from Whataburger. My college didn't give a crap at all.

So basically all the tech platforms we’ve come to rely on for the past 20 years have been using the data they’ve sucked out of us to build machines to replace us. This is literally the plot of HBO’s Westworld.

Fellow professors here on Mastodon, @academicchatter , I'm curious about something: do your students simply NOT understand what citations/ bibliographies are anymore? My students increasingly do not understand what citations are; they think a citation is the same as a bibliographic entry. If they DO understand it, they will only use citations for direct quotes, completely missing moments where they paraphrase an author's ideas. Just my experience or is this widespread?

Hey @thunderbird ! I've been looking around for a solution to this and coming up empty-handed, so thought I might tag you on here. Is there a way to manually add a RSS feed favicon? I have one feed that has no favicon (although their website has one, so I'm a bit confused why it's not getting recognized) and, honestly, that empty space just messes with my OCD. Can I go in somewhere and just drop the favicon for the site so it shows up with all the others?

Cosmosis,
@Cosmosis@dice.camp avatar

@thunderbird Thank you! I thought it might be something like that, but am not nearly tech-savvy enough to figure this out. I'll reach out and see if they can fix the favicon. I appreciate the response and help!

We get so much guidance on how to identify student burnout.
Do admins get that same amount of guidance to identify burnout?

Your administrators congratulate you on your resilience? We just get asked for "grace" with all the things they keep doing wrong because they won't involve us in decisions.

We're experiencing some issues with site build system and trying to get 115 into your hands. It wouldn't be a major release without some hiccups! Thanks for your patience folks.

Hi Thunderbird family, we have just a bit of housekeeping and cleanup to do before we release version 115, so we're going to hold off until tomorrow (Tuesday) to press the launch button.

Thank you so much for your patience. We know it's been a long wait. We just want to ensure the smoothest launch possible!

It's inevitable that throughout my career, I've watched as my work gets replaced and updated by others. It's rare to be asked to redesign old work, which is why I leapt at the chance when @thunderbird asked if I could design a contemporary update to the Thunderbird logo. The one I designed 19 years ago!

I’ll do a proper blog post soon, but for now you can read more here:

@jonhicks @thunderbird this new logo is AMAZING! Great job. Looking forward to this being part of all the exciting updates coming this summer.
