Five weeks he’s lived with us, this is the first time he’s sat on my lap. I’m very honoured.

Got stung on a Quality Check on the Scan & Go up the Asda, lads.

Something hadn’t scanned, so I had to stand there like a criminal while the lady rescanned all my stuff.

I’ll be a marked man for a couple of months now, so I’ll have to be on my bestest behaviour.

@witewulf A thief AND a wino. I’ll warrant you can’t show your face at any of the society gatherings these days.

Did my power walk around town which is getting ready for the carnival parade. There was live music at two places (I heard Sweet Caroline at the bottom of town and Blame it on the Boogie at the top) and the butchers shops were setting up bbqs on the pavement. I went into the Spar store and the staff were dressed up in tutus and brightly coloured shirts and headbands. All very jolly even though it was drizzling a little. Now back for lunch.

Anyway, it's Saturday evening, so youse all know what that means!

Yep, drinking beer, cooking dinner, listening to Craig Charles' show on

And this week, due to the weather actually being pretty nice for a change, I'm sat on the deck drinking the beer.

DJDarren,
@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org avatar

So I guess my are;

1 - Home cooked chippy tea for dinner
2 - A nice, ice cold golden ale in my glass
3 - Some cracking tunes on the wireless

For the first time in a while there, I just sat in the car when I reached my destination because there was a good song on the radio.

Just saw a post about how (American) politicians want to end libraries because they want to limit access to information, etc... And I can't stress enough how that's massively overthinking it.

They want to get rid of libraries there (and here to a lesser extent) because they just don't value them. They don't need a library, and don't understand why anyone else might.

In the eyes of the rich and powerful, a library is pointless, especially now we all have the internet at our fingertips.

DJDarren,
@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org avatar

In many cases, the image of a politician being power hungry to the point of wanting to actively limit people's access to services just isn't true. Not least because there are rules and laws stopping them from being actively evil.

It's worse than that; they just don't care.

It's the banality of evil writ large.

DJDarren,
@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org avatar

And this is the same as almost every public good.

If it's not something that politicians don't value, then it's something that politicians' friends could be making money from if it were private. Those are their two reasons for getting rid of publicly funded services.

@sharongascoigne I love shops like that when I'm on holiday. I love having a little rummage through the nik naks.

Do you sell fudge and that? Because I love a little holiday gift shop that sells nik naks and fudge.

Bought a leaf rake for the garden today, so have finally raked up all those sodding palm leaves that have been piling up while the weather's been crap. Moved the lawn too, and planted some new grass seed in the bald patches. on the lawn, AND trimmed the hedge!

My next step is to clear the weedy flower bed, but I don't really know what's weed and what's supposed to be there. But I want to clear it out, and plant some native wild flowers.

DJDarren,
@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org avatar

On the @blindboyboatclub podcast I was listening to, they talked about how encouraging more bugs to your garden will encourage more bats, which makes perfect sense. And I like seeing bats.

Might be a bit late in the season to be thinking about that kind of thing, but it doesn't hurt to lay the groundwork.

DJDarren,
@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org avatar

At the very least, I could do with picking up some of those cheap bug hotels you can get, that I can squirrel away in the darker corners of my little garden.

DJDarren,
@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org avatar

@crinolinerobot Done that on the bird feeder. Put some stones in the water bowl so that bees can escape, and smaller birds can reach.

For my followers who aren't about the Discworld, Cut Me Own Throat Dibbler is a legitimate businessman who plies his trade on the streets of Ankh Morpork. Not normally known for his work in the pharmaceutical trade, he's usually to be found selling rat-onnastick at public hangings and the like.

He'll sell you one for a penny, but he'll be cutting his own throat at that price.

DJDarren,

@PetraPhoenix Steal away mi amica. I myself torrented that episode so I could screen grab it, because you can't screen grab the app. Because the future is stupid.

When it was announced, I saw a lot of people griping that Terry's dead, and how could Neil possibly write a suitable sequel.

Well, the pair of them had already sketched out a second book, so I'm assuming this follows that. Then Neil got John Finnemore on board, and as soon as I saw that, I was doubly sold. Finnemore is wonderful. Also, Rob Wilkins is an executive producer, and few knew Terry as well as Rob.

DJDarren,
@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org avatar

@crinolinerobot Yeah, I enjoy Gaiman's writing well enough, but it's fair to say that Terry almost certainly humanised the story. So I'm sure that John will provide the same balance.

Been listening to this week’s @blindboyboatclub podcast over the past few days (it’s quite a long one), in which there was discussion on seed bombing native wildflowers to help the local bug population.

So I just looked at a packet of seeds in B&Q. They’re from Poland.

Bloody Polish flowers, comin’ over ‘ere, etc…

To my dying day, I'll never really understand IP and streaming rights.

That Ice Cube track is available on Apple Music. I can listen to it via two greatest hits collections. But it's the only track on the album it's from that isn't available to play.

Something I'm very much enjoying in is how hell is portrayed as an eternal bureaucratic nightmare of form filling and not being able to get the right permits, even if you're a demon.

As @Troggie pointed out, it's VERY Gilliam.
