Allotment life.... Largely images and information about our successes and failures from our allotments in the centre of England. Mostly no dig, mostly raised beds apart from the fruit and potatoes which are in tubs. We keep chickens too and even though we have been doing this for a number of years we learn something new every week. It can be hard and exhausting but at the same time it can be rewarding and fascinating. We love it…

Greenhouse changes 😎 One of the reasons we accepted this allotment a few years ago was the greenhouse 🤔 We knew that we could fix the issues with the structure and state of the plot 🫣 Here a a couple of before and after images

Greenhouse the day we first saw it a few years ago
The front was restored first then some of the glass replaced
Last to be done were the raised beds inside the greenhouse

Tomato time 🍅 We have planted the vine tomatoes this morning 🌅 6 Honey Comb and 11 Black Moon. Both exhausting and exciting 😎 Just 8 Summerlast bush tomatoes left to plant 👍 We have also planted marigolds and basil in front of the watering pots 😎

This year we’re following a YouTuber called Chilli Chump and his recommendations for soil preparation when planting chillies 🌶️ and peppers 🫑 in pots. Here’s hoping for success 👍 For every 10 parts of compost add 1 part of vermiculite,1 part of perlite, 1/2 a part of fish blood & bone, 1/10th of epsom salts and 1/100th of mycorrhizal fungi 😎 The planting pots will be 11 litre pots, a little larger than the pots that he uses but that’s what we have here❗️

May seem excessive but if we don’t eat them fast enough we have the chickens 🐓 who love cucumbers 🥒 Four of each: Mini Munch, Passandra and Picolino (and a couple spare to give away to plot neighbours 👍)

Maybe it’s just the ways things go but we always seem to miss putting seeds in one cell in a tray far to often these days 😎‼️😎 Basil in five of the six cells 🤣

@stfn We do not sell them. We store them and have not bought onions for many years 😎 We do give some away to friends, family members and neighbours 👍

@stfn thought it may be easier to show you. We keep them year round in bakers crates on top of the bantams’ coop
