Tidbit: The branches of my neighbor’s lemon tree cross the walls of my back porch and according to an Indian Supreme Court ruling, I can do whatever I choose to do with them 🫰

    “fake Manipuri..” - the innovative but funny words we use 😂😂

    My friends jokingly call me ‘Vai’ (someone from mainland India) 😂 for having been brought up in Delhi

    /For readers, ‘Vai’ isn’t derogatory, just a slang/term. Similar to ‘pahadi’.

    Deus,
    @Deus@charcha.cc avatar

    It’s one of those acquired tastes. Similar to a reply above, there are many in my own community who don’t like it. The ones from Nagaland are fermented even more - I also can’t have those.

    Deus,
    @Deus@charcha.cc avatar

    Nah man. I’m originally from Mizoram, have lived in Delhi/NCR all my life. I visit Nagaland regularly. Last was for two weeks back in 2022. It’s a lovely place and worth a visit - I love it more than Mizoram. I should post more pics. February is the best time to visit. It’s when the ‘hidden’ guns come out 😉 - auto, semi, or classic - during a festival (forgot the name).

    The more remote opportunities you accept, the more office real estate owners don't like it.

    Managers are being given incentives on who can get their team to come back to office. Regular team outings and shit. It’s surprisingly working. It’s also a ‘No No’ to work remotely for those <25 years old - “How will we build future leaders?” is the rationale.

    Really irresponsible journalism, if you can call it journalism at all, by Sandhya Ravishankar who just published an article on reputed activist Thenmozhi Soundarajan. The article is full of insinuations, falsehoods and fear-mongering among Hindu right

    Deus,

    The intent is clear - to troll her, create fear, and send a message to others on the likes of, “We will find you.”

    Indian Govt. has removed the disability related questions from the upcoming National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6, Commencing from Jul-1).

    Disability related questions are crucial to understand the state of disabled people in India and to formulate necessary policies for providing better quality of life to everyone.

    I knew fast fashion was awful.

    I didn't realise the scale of the problem.

    "Today, three-fifths of all clothing ends up in landfills or incinerators within a year of production—a statistic that translates into a truckload of used clothing dumped or burned every second."

    https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/article/chile-fashion-pollution

    Deus, (edited )
    @Deus@charcha.cc avatar

    In a similar fashion, there was a time when normal ‘old’ clothing was dumped in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan with slogans of, “Third world people need your help”. Only for traders to resell them, recycled, and produced as finished goods. Since the said countries have progressed, interesting how they are now dumped to countries deemed poorer.

    /Not being bitter.

    China is continuously investing in infrastructure that pays huge dividends and raises the bar for competition. Western economies have no resources to match that.

    A homogeneous society also helped - lesser traditional, cultural, or religious conflicts when implementing ‘schemes’.

    Deus,
    @Deus@charcha.cc avatar

    China is actually fairly culturally diverse

    Nothing compared to the diversity in India, if you ask me.

    “Oh, you say you’re not Chinese? You oppose this scheme because of your religious/cultural believes? A scheme that’ll make China a great nation? Off to the re-education camp you go!”. This can’t be done in a heterogeneous society like India. Or for that matter, most parts of the Western world.

    I sometimes wonder if ‘social justice’ and ‘collective welfare’ still sell with Millennials or GenZ(?). It was drilled into our heads when we were growing up.
