As we gaze in horror at the state of the #MiddleEast, let us remember we could have had actual peace in the Me decades ago if it weren't for #HenryKissinger, that evil bastard.
In the second part of this two-part episode of #ProfessorBuzzkill, Phil Nash, Associate Professor of History at Penn State Shenango discusses the legacy of Henry #Kissinger
One more remark on yesterday's #elections in #Taiwan: I read a lot of comments from folks furious at #Biden for his statement that the #UnitedStates do not support Taiwan's #independence.
Biden's statement is perfectly consistent and in-line with long-standing US position and policy known as the #ThreeNoes:
no to independence of Taiwan
no to unilateral changes of the status quo
no to violence or annexation
If you want to be angry at someone, let that be #Nixon and #Kissinger.
I am having a bad time. I am ruining my own weekend listening to this! I mean, it’s excellent—it’s Robert Evans + #TheDollop guys—and I’m learning a lot and I hate it.
Taking the opportunity of being bed-ridden (fuck you, covid) to catch up on #LastWeekTonight, and this snippet from a show that aired about a month and a half before #Kissinger died was just... 😘👌
Always room to add another reason to want to resurrect #HenryKissinger to life, just so as you can have the pleasure of beating him to death all over again.
What is going on in #Israel and #Gaza right now? That, it seems, is all on #Kissinger too. What a fucking, festering, cancerous, boil of a person he was.
Living #WarCriminals are likely thinking they'll be as lucky as #Kissinger - avoid being tried in Hague, avoid punishments for years of war crimes & be able to live longer than most of us citizens of the world, who've been fighting for human rights justice & ecological justice for almost our whole lives.
Many now dead war criminals got away with their crimes & atrocities. War criminals learned they can easily get away with doing more war crimes.
If you wanted a perfect example of the liberal #Guardian's weasel words at their finest, you couldn't do better than an article describing #Kissinger's 'flawed legacy'
Flawed. To describe a man who prolonged the Vietnam War, covertly expanded it into neutral Cambodia, facilitated genocides in Cambodia, East Timor, and Bangladesh, accelerated civil wars in southern Africa, and supported coups and death squads throughout Latin America. He had the blood of at least 3 million people on his hands 😡
Understanding #Kissinger is not a historical exercise but, because he was still looked up to and his counsel sought till the day he died, instead essential to thinking about what the point of US foreign policy actually is and always has been. It's pursuing our interests, as defined by those with the most power to influence our government, no matter who has to suffer. "Democracy promotion" has always been a public relations cover story.
