Been offline for a bit because I'm dealing with some IRL shit. This hasn't been helped by the news that Steve Albini has died. Dude was such a legend, engineered so many of my favourite bands and he even became a better person after a lifetime of being an edgelord dickhead. Will be spinning plenty of Big Black and Shellac today, along with Pixies, Nirvana, Breeders, The Wedding Present and lots of his other amazing work

@DJDarren Clutch really go at it with so much vim and brio that it should come with a health warning. I can't decide whether it's the godly guitar tone or the badass vocals that do the most in making it such a ripper.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar to my laptop with an GPU (it's a 1660 Ti) with 32GB RAM just suddenly going greyscale? It's fixed by a reboot but it happens every month or so. It's just super weird.

@jake4480 It could be that. I stripped away a lot of the Win11 UX to make it more Win10-like and now I don't mind it so much. I do also have a Win10 machine as a back-up/dodgy behaviour device (and a functioning Win8 😂 too for completeness sake) where I don't think that has ever happened...

@jake4480 I get you totally. I like new Wolfenstein single player and stuff like that with a story but running around a map over and over shooting randoms online just seems pointless to me. I love stuff like modern Fallout that’s a bit shootery but more rpg like. After seeing the tv show I’m tempted to dive back into new vegas actually…

I must say I'm really enjoying the new English Teacher album. It's probably best thought of as post-punk but it defies easy categorization. It's as often chill as it is skronky and the vocals are talky but melodic. Their secret weapon is Lily Fontaine, the young, black, female poet they have as a vocalist/lyricist. @jake4480 problem with getting up super early in the week (like i do too) is that your body doesn't realise it's the weekend and lie in, gah! And the problem with working on research projects rather than clock-in/clock-out stuff is that you think about them about all the time...

@jake4480 @HailsandAles song titles are glorious on Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol. Another heavy band that does that brilliantly is Oozing Wound, love them too. Will check out Tuff Guac, as I do like country-ish music (not mainstream country though, bleurgh).

After talking with @Rob_Thew the other day about songwriting, I've been working on ideas for a blog post about it. It's just funny, things you notice, chord progressions.

I'll talk more about it in the post, but it made me laugh the other day when wifey & I were watching Taylor's performance of 'Champagne Problems' (which is a very chill piano song) and I laughed & I had to explain to her it's like, a punk progression she's using in it. She even drops the f-bomb in that one.

Champagne Problems is a punk song. 😂
