FolksVelo

@FolksVelo@mas.to

We see velomobiles as being a key way to address the #ClimateCrisis but most cost more than a used car. Our goal is to produce enclosed velocars that cost less than a used automobile to make them affordable by all. Think of a FolksVelo as a link to public transport and local errands, a better alternative to cars, like a cargo bike where even the parent gets to stay out of the rain

Blast from the past: here I am with our dream team in 1999. Missing from the photo was Pam, our amazing driver

25 years later I'm still working on green transportation

I went to @spezialradmesse_spezi specifically for the but was beyond impressed with the variety of ingenious bicycle related products. In a wonderful world of Bosch & Bafang I found the @pendix_edrive to be an elegant & super easy to install option for electrifying just about ANY bike or velomobile

exemplifying the amazing variety of things that were at SPEZI2024 was the I Woody bike camper. Elegant, remarkably lightweight , brilliantly designed camper for one (or two people who REALLY like each other). I even saw it being towed by the remarkable Pedilio solar velomobile

While I can appreciate the aerodynamics and the ability to go quickly without e-assist, I found the upper end of the velo-world to be hilariously challenging to get in and out of. Certainly a great option for long distance but maybe less practical for city use and quick trips. (i think of short trips as being 5km or less)

His impression is something we all should reflect on, especially in these troubled times when unspeakable atrocities are being committed over borders and land.

In Finland, kids are in the snow
meanwhile here in Massachusetts even the prediction of a few flakes of snow drives people to storm the grocery stores (in their SUVs) to buy eggs, bread, toilet paper and milk.

Finland does it better

My cat is great at catching spiders. There are however a few caveats:

    1. Spiders must be sufficiently enormous to be fun. Somewhere between “Oh lawd he coming” and Shelob.

    2. Spider catching only happens at night, and only in the bedroom.

    3. Cat will make a few chirping noises to alert us that a spider is being hunted.

    4. All spiders must be delivered as gifts onto the chest or face of one of us.

    5. Note I only said great at ‘catching’. Delivered spiders are very much alive and very fucking irate about the current state of affairs.

@SecurityWriter this was our sweet cat Bella. she would never catch a spider but she would yowl in terror anytime she saw one and would continue until we took the spider outside

Thinking about US Rep Boebert (God help me). I'm old enough to remember when a Rep groping their date while the date fondles her during a show, then cursing a blue streak when she's kicked out of the theater, would result in the Rep eventually resigning in shame. Then again, we still have no idea who Rep George Santos really is, and a fmr. President who tried to overthrow an election is the likely nominee to run again, so the bar isn't just low, it's buried deep in the Earth's core.

Kudos to the EU Parliament for their ruling on replaceable batteries. Great news for consumers and the environment... and their ruling will not only cover smart phones, too will have to follow this new regulation.

Lewis Wickes Hine photographed oppressive working conditions of thousands of children in the early 20th century. The black-and-white photographs suggest a bygone era – an embarrassing past that many Americans think we’ve left behind.

But with numerous reports of violations, many involving , and an uptick in state's rolling back the minimum working age – Hine’s work is as relevant as it was a century ago.
