@hamishcampbell Hi Hamish, we are trying to do a temporary transition to campaign. Unfortunately activism went offline early, ie. 7th Oct 2023 GMT rather than 8 Oct as promised.
It went offline within minutes of us messaging you. See below for message. Might you please arrange to re-enable the instance so we can do a needed temporary transition. Thanks.
@dsfgs as you say it's likely to do with time zones, it shut down when our next payment was cancelled due to lack of funds. We received no direct donations for this instance for the last year on opencollective or bitcoin and funds were far beyond exorsted.
We would like to restart the instance based on a different codebase if donations could cover the ongoing costs of servers and hosting #DIY
Our culture is currently not strong anufe to support alt media hosting or production.
@Zenoka
Online #video itself is not sustainable, and required special deals and #cronyism. That's mostly what breaking #netNeutrality was about — and its wrong.
We talk about an ethical #streaming video-format that can combine higher resolution stills with 12 fps video max.
@rooftopaxx yep, we are going to look at the sustainability of the campaign instance, but think it's half paying it hosting costs, activism covers no costs over a year. Will do funding outreach for the campaign instance over the next few months, we plan to keep it online, but it would be nice if it covered its hosting costs and help cover the costs of the wider #OMN
We have shut down 3 servers over the last year #DIY only works if...
This is my periodic reminder to support your instance - nearly all instances are free and rely on donations to pay the bills. We appreciate donations to campaign and activism, and know that other instances may be struggling financially. If you are in a position to donate to your instance, please consider donating.
There is zero problems with those that can’t afford it. These are tough times and it’s important to provide a reliable and useful social network.
“All growth requires more consumption, which requires mining more non-renewable materials and more energy, which is unsustainable. On a planet on the verge of multiple tipping points, the extraction required to even begin to replace fossil fuels would be suicidal. To decarbonise, managed degrowth is our only possible option. ‘Green growth’ just replaces fossil fuels with renewable energy and traps us in this spiral of environmental damage.”
It's interesting to see the balance of fail and success in this #openweb project/community in the small picture we seced in the big picture we fail, a recurring #geekproblem. How to care about this is something we don't think about much. Maybe this should be a part of our SocialHub Community Values, how can we embedded something like this, is it even possible.
We used to call this "netiquette" for the #fluffy side and it existed in meany "spiky" tech projects but was never codified, maybe this might be a good problem to try and solve?
20 years of #dotcons selling us libertarian individualism to push aside collective support of the "revolutionary" #openweb which is when we last had left tech power.
For this 20 years we have had #geekproblem pushing #closedweb as left tech, this is OBVIOUSLY a disaster we can't keep doing. Yes, let's not get into a prat fight, this is needed as a supplementary.
Remember #mainstreaming people have been and are still being vile in their interactions with the needed alternative. Grab a shoal and compost this mess, please.
