Working on a DRAFT text to take to the Oxford Modern Art Gallery to ask if they will organize a retrospective:

Exhibition Title: "Banners of Activism: The Legacy of Thalia and Ian Campbell"
Introduction: Welcome to a thought-provoking exhibition celebrating the legacy of Ian and Thalia Campbell, a visionary duo whose artistic journey traversed the realms of fine art into the heart of politics, utilizing banners as their canvas for social change. Join us on an immersive tour through five decades of impassioned activism, each banner a vibrant testament to the symbiosis of art and collective movements.
About the Artists: Thalia and Ian Campbell, fine artists, etchers, and painters, evolved into influential figures in the world of activism. For over 50 years, they crafted hundreds of banners that became the cornerstone of multiple causes: peace, politics, anti-racism, environmentalism, and more. Their banners are not mere fabric; they're conduits of societal messages, symbols laden with emotions and fervor.
Art and Activism Unite: The Campbells' foray into banners catalyzed their fusion of politics and art. Prior to this transition, they exhibited fine art from the 1950s onwards. However, the rejection of their art as being "too political" by the establishment became the catalyst for their creative revolution. They undertook the art deemed too politically charged and transformed it into a tool for social change.
The Power of Banners: Each banner is an embodiment of artistry and political conviction, meticulously crafted with meaning in every color, material, and symbol. Created in various settings - from kitchen tables to collaborations with other artists, often residing and developing over months - these banners narrate stories of collective movements and societal change.
Activism and Influence: Thalia's pivotal role as a founder member of the Women for Life on Earth group led to the establishment of the Greenham peace camp in 1981, an iconic moment inspiring one of their banners crafted from a sheet, repurposed for various daily needs. Meanwhile, Ian's engagement in ecological and social issues, including political candidacy, further cemented their commitment to change.
Legacy and Recognition: The Campbells' banners have transcended geographical boundaries, finding homes in various museums worldwide, extending to the Tate, Briton, the Bradford Peace Museum, the Museum of Wales, the Imperial War Museum, and even the River Clyde's Robert Owen Museum in Scotland. Replicas and gifts have reached New Zealand, Oregon, Chicago, and numerous venues globally, enriching cultural spaces with their resonant messages.
Chronicle of Movements: the companion book to this exhibition "A Picture Paints a Thousand Words," is the culmination of Ian and Thalia's banner portfolio, serves as a visual journey through decades of historical campaigning movements. From Greenham and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament to the Miner's Strike, Anti-war protests, Trade Unions, and the Labour Party, these banners offer a unique artistic glimpse into pivotal moments in history.
Transition from Fine Art to Politics: The rejection of their art by the establishment led Ian and Thalia Campbell to seize their creative expression and transform it into a force for societal change. Their journey serves as an inspiring narrative of how art, initially rejected as too political, was repurposed to become a voice for collective movements and social advocacy.
Conclusion: Experience the vibrancy and power of these banners, which have transcended their material form to become symbols of hope, change, and societal progress. Explore the fusion of art and activism, witness history through fabric and color, and immerse yourself in the monumental impact of Thalia and Ian Campbell's dedication to art, politics, and social change.
Join us and witness the visual narrative of resilience, activism, and artistic brilliance at the "Banners of Activism: The Legacy of Thalia and Ian Campbell" exhibition. Your journey through these banners will reveal the inherent power of art to inspire change and mark history.

In general, waterways are "commons" thus do not have prices for meany things, or are cross subsidized by meany stakeholders. Has anyone tried the new Activity Pub plugin for Wordpress?

It’s out of beta now.

I have a Wordpress site (which I need as an author) and a Mastodon instance (which I need because I am a control freak).

If Activity Pub works as it should, I won’t need both — but we can’t get Activity Pub to work on a Wordpress site.

Has anyone tried this?

I will trade legal analysis for technical help. (Fediverse economics)

At the Our 5 instances were funded by the remaining 5k of the tech fund from visionontv project grant for the last ten years, this pot of money is now beyond empty. It was never self funded... https://opencollective.com/open-media-network This is normal issue... Have been applying for Dev funding for last 3-4 years to cross fund the instances but nothing, , as most of this funding is poured down the drain.

The instances have been running to seed the tech Dev and provide hands on and backend mod knowledge for these Dev projects.

The is nothing happening to fix this mess, only the stuff is sustainable and this soon disappears when it goes out of fashion.

reboot is limited by the people working on it. We obviously need to do better and we can if we choose too

The current media coverage of tribal struggles in the Middle East is fraught with complexities and contradictions. The situation in the West Bank and Gaza, with Israel's establishment of settlements and the resulting occupation, is a source of intense debate and contention.

As highlighted by Ms. Pillay in her statement, successive Israeli governments have ignored international law by creating settlements and transferring Israeli civilians into the West Bank and Gaza. This has, in essence, established facts on the ground, which are aimed at securing permanent Israeli control. Occupations resulting from unlawful armed attacks are distinct disputes, allowing the occupied state to legally exercise its right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter to recover its territory.

The 1947 UN declaration, which is foundational to understanding the conflict. It underscores the legal aspects of the situation and the potential rights and claims of both parties involved. In this context, Hamas, as the governing authority in Gaza, has a legal right to use military force to liberate their illegally occupied land, based on UN resolutions. The heart of the matter lies in the interpretation and application of international law and resolutions.

The media's role in disseminating information and providing a comprehensive view of these complexities is crucial. However, media falls short of its mission to tell the "truth." Instead, they often mix facts with biased narratives, creating confusion and misinterpretation among their audiences. To address this issue and build a path toward peace, it is imperative that the media focuses on presenting the facts clearly and objectively, as laid out in UN statements and actions. This means refraining from propagating falsehoods or favouring one side over the other. The historical context, and the UN's involvement, can serve as a useful resource for those seeking to understand the intricacies of the Middle East conflict.

In summary, untangling the web of Middle East conflicts, particularly the Israeli-Palestinian struggle, necessitates a commitment to truth and accuracy in media coverage. By adhering to the principles and resolutions of international bodies like the UN, we can hope to achieve a clearer understanding and, ultimately, work towards a just and lasting peace in the region.
A simple view of the current mess making in our media coverage of the tribal struggles in the Middle East.

“By ignoring international law in establishing or facilitating the establishment of settlements, and directly or indirectly transferring Israeli civilians into these settlements, successive Israel governments have set facts on the ground to ensure permanent Israeli control in the West Bank,” said Ms. Pillay. https://news.un.org/en/story/2022/10/1129722

“occupations resulting from unlawful armed attacks are indeed distinct disputes that do not fall under the prohibition contained in the UNGA 2625, and the occupied state may therefore legally exercise its right to unilateral and/or collective self-defence against the occupying power(s) under Article 51 of the UN Charter to recover its territory.” Https://www.dlpforum.org/2023/04/15/lawfully-exercising-the-right-to-self-defence-under-article-51-of-the-un-charter-to-recover-occupied-territory/

In this the Hamas government has a legal right to use military force to liberate illegally occupied land under the UN 1947 declaration https://web.archive.org/web/20171010090147/https://unispal.un.org/DPA/DPR/unispal.nsf/0/7F0AF2BD897689B785256C330061D253

Our media coverage is mixing this simple story with lies and propaganda. In this they are obviously failing in its self-declared mission of telling the “truth”.

Yes we have way too much mess, and yes nobody in this is black and white good or bad, let’s try and stop our media adding mess to this, and please try to keep the simple clear truth of the above UN statements and actions and build a peace FROM THIS.

@volkris It would be nice if it was like that, an example would be our network, what we have now is copies of

Introducing OMN: A Trust-Based Project for Federated Networks

In the ever-expanding digital landscape, where information overload and spam are commonplace, there's a crucial need for a trust-based project that emphasizes human moderation and community cooperation. Welcome to OMN – a unique initiative that aims to leverage the power of human moderation to foster federated networks and genuine online communities.

The concept is simple: every piece of content, known as a "flow," goes through a trust-building process. When users create content, it's either trusted – indicating a consistent track record of quality contributions – or moderated when the content varies in quality. This dynamic approach ensures that the system scales effectively by encouraging users to build trust links with one another.

Without this human touch, a network's workload quickly becomes unmanageable, or it's overwhelmed by irrelevant or spammy content, rendering the sites useless. This core feature of OMN is designed to encourage the growth of human-scale federated trust communities.

o maintain a useful site, two key outcomes are possible: the creation of large, diverse communities with a broad spectrum of admins and moderators, or the establishment of smaller, tightly-knit trust groups focused on quality connections. Both outcomes are valuable and central to the essence of .

While automation might seem tempting, it risks creating countless middling-quality sites, leading to a signal-to-noise problem. In the end, this could undermine the entire network. OMN's philosophy is rooted in the idea that "less is more" – a deliberate move away from the of endlessly improving tools.

OMN addresses the challenge of managing spam and low-quality content by allowing them to flow into the network and then guiding them away from the quality areas of the network.

One unique feature of OMN is its organic growth model. New sites may need to be set up to allow new content to flow in, spreading the network wider and narrowing the focus. This leads to an ecosystem where base sites feed into middle sites, which in turn feed into top sites, creating a robust network interconnected by quality tags, subject feeds, and editorial articles.

Surprisingly, OMN inverts the traditional value pyramid: the top sites are easier to set up and manage but hard to add value to. The core of the project lies in the middle sites, where content is sifted and aggregated. The real value, however, remains at the base where content is created.

OMN operates on the principle that there is nothing entirely original in its approach – it draws inspiration from how plumbing, electrical grids, and even the neurons in our brains function. This embraces the concept of as a fundamental pillar of the project.

In the next step of the project, the focus is on stepping away from the dominant ideologies of the 20th century and building social technology based on a different vision of human nature. Unlike other projects, is all about simplicity and decentralization, emphasizing people and communerty control and social connections. It's an invitation to break free from the confines of the past and shape the future of online communities.
