Best superpower? Gain a powerful item! Disclaimer: These are all banned by the Pope. The Gendarmerie Corps of Vatican City will be deployed if they think you possess one.

A: Doom Ticket. Bars you from heaven but you'll be the monarch of the underworld.
B: Incognito Hat. God won't find out about your sins while you wear it.
C: Book of Substitution. Swaps which religion is true. You cannot make none of them true.

You think the Great Old One would spare you even for bringing about his own existence?

I'm not sure I'd care. As far as ways to go, I feel like "initial offering to the Sleeper of R'lyeh" is a pretty good one.

Having a growing anxiety today (it's daily, but lately it's been bad). I think I have to shut down my computer for a while and go outside. My OCD combined with perfectionism and easy triggers are not a good match.

One programmer to another: outdoor hobbies are a necessity. Gardening. Wood work. Hiking. Fishing. Whatever really, just something that isn't screen time.

You're a programmer, you intimately know how to learn new things. Pick a thing you know almost nothing about that interests you and put in the practice. It'll do amazing things for your mental wellness, speaking from the same experience.

Itty53,

@rolle

Probably isn't enough. Not to say you should run more (or stop, don't), but running alone ain't doing it if you're still feeling that way.

I'd suggest something that'll keep your brain a bit more active while you unwind, why I mentioned picking a new something to learn. ymmv but for me my anxiety comes from within, when I have too much time in my own head to dwell. So I distract it with new stuff I've never done. Small challenges. Like "Make a knife with your hands this weekend".

#Threads is not a text sharing platform, nor a #SocialMedia app. It's a platform for people to create natural language examples Meta can use for training #LLMs, for free

I'm sorry but that's incredibly naive. Facebook can generate new IPs faster than any instance owner could keep track of them. In fact Facebook could just use their users to do the scraping.

The reality is everything you put out in the digital public, everything, is getting scraped. I guarantee it.

If you're actually honestly concerned with LLMs using your data, get offline. There is no alternative solution. Fact is your public comments are ... Public. Accept it.

The people "on the left" excited by Kennedy running, are the same people "on the left" who have complicated opinions about why Putin was right to invade, and the same people "on the left" who thought we should hear QAnon out about vaccines, and the same people "on the left" who thought we should "work with" checks notes fascist militia Boogaloo Bois to, something something.

Maybe they just aren't "people on the left" at all. And it's the exact same people, every time; curious that.

“Why do the creators of ChatGPT call their chatbot an AI instead of a proper term like large language model? For the same reason that Disney World calls their employees "cast members," corporations use the term "right-sized" when they lay people off, and workers are given a "friendly reminder" right before a manager fires you. In short, all these are examples of corporate doublespeak, where language is used as "an agent of power and control.”” https://www.patreon.com/posts/genre-grapevine-85417093

Itty53,

@MisuseCase @lilithsaintcrow

More than that, they are trying to set themselves up for the legal challenges with the argument, "we didn't do that, the algorithm did". They need to have public opinion see these things as actual AIs and not just their programming working as they intended it to work when they wrote it.

If I code a virus and release it in software, I can be charged. If I write a machine to do the same thing, they want the argument to be that I'm not responsible for what it does.

I think this is America, the only way massive tech companies like Google and OpenAI and Facebook and the rest are ever held accountable is if they stop earning their shareholders money.

"Even after the 11 years he spent as a Muslim, becoming a key ideologue for al-Qaeda, he never really left his National Socialism behind."

Why am I not surprised? One extreme to another. Pieces of information like this really highlight the mental health aspect of these beliefs. Swinging from Islam to Satanist Nazisim. In fact I'm not even sure I would qualify this as mental health, it's more along the lines of intellectual development. "Mom it's not a phase! I'm a Satanist now!".

Former FBI assistant director says if former President Trump is convicted he could end up in a supermax prison with just one Secret Service agent for shower time. https://www.mediaite.com/radio/nbc-news-analyst-says-trump-could-end-up-in-supermax-prison-with-one-secret-service-agent-for-shower-time/

Itty53,

@w7voa

I like that this really let's the argument get framed simply, "at the end of the day the secret service just needs to establish a protocol for it and then there isn't much of a problem".

People act as if this isn't doable. Of course it is.
