Comme je ne connaissais pas jusqu’à il y a peu, je donne ici un extrait d’une présentation faite par le respectable MoMA :

« Artiste à la curiosité insatiable et à la créativité débordante, Robert Rauschenberg s’est fait remarquer à un carrefour fertile de l’art américain, alors que l’expressionnisme abstrait touchait à sa fin et que le pop art faisait son apparition. Sa stratégie esthétique, qui englobe la sérigraphie sur toile, l’assemblage, la scénographie et la performance, est basée sur le collage et la juxtaposition d’objets et d’images du monde quotidien afin de susciter leurs effets réciproques et de stimuler une réponse presque poétique chez le spectateur. »

In 1861, settlers built sixteen single-story cottages with chimneys and slate roofs. The residents called it the ‘main street.’ Crofting was the way of life. The place had been inhabited for more than 2000 years until it was eventually abandoned in 1930.
