Latest map showing the latest volcanic eruption near Grindavík. It shows how close the lava flow is to town and how the last road into town almost got covered in lava.

It is impressive how the walls have worked so well so far. Hopefully they will continue to keep the lava out!

Grindavík is a town close to my heart. I feel for all those that have had to leave their homes there.

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@jon Walls work, if only the stupid blockheads in charge of my country knew that.

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@protonprivacy One of the things developers fail to realize is that phone numbers do not equal personhood and some people may have more than one phone number and some may have none at all. Develop your applications and services with this in mind.

What was it again....

"Super-Earth, our home..." :blobcatgiggle:

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@stux Remember that the federation of super earth is not a republic in the sense that people have rights and people elect their representatives, it is a managed democracy where the elites in the government have the power in a large entrenched bureaucracy and the people vote for representatives that cannot do much and any challenger who wants to buck the system cannot get elected in the first place. In essence a democratic system with an oligarchical collectivist ruling class.

@mozilla @firefox @thunderbird @Waterfox Out of curiosity, and as a feature request, when do you plan upstream Waterfox into Firefox and Betterbird into Thunderbird. The additional customizibility options of Waterfox would be a great addition to Firefox and the bugfixes and improvements made to Betterbird would work great in Thunderbird. When forks of your products make great strides it is a good idea to consider upstreaming these changes for the betterment of all.

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@sabreW4K3 All of them. Betterbird has bugfixes that Thunderbird doesn't have. Including working with the system tray. Waterfox has more customizibility than firefox and those settings should make their way into firefox.

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@sabreW4K3 Some screenshots of my own.

@sabreW4K3 I am sorry, I took these screenshots with the GNOME screenshot tool, what computer are you using?

🔒It's World Password Day and we'd like to remind you that a good password is like a good joke – not too short, not too obvious, and definitely not something you've told your friends, family, or everyone at the office!

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@Vivaldi I think that Google should replace the chrome secure password generator so that passwords are 64 characters long with uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and special characters. Likewise, there should be an option to demand a master password when using or exporting passwords like there is in firefox and thunderbird.

If you’re frustrated about what the online world has become, and you remember “the good old days” with nostalgia (rightly or wrongly), and you despair about our collective ability to find a way forward, this by @molly0xfff offers an important perspective. With reason for hope. She has become an essential voice, along with @pluralistic and Jaron Lanier.

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@currentbias @JamesGleick @molly0xfff @pluralistic @aral After reading the article, I think that P2P technology like Bittorrent, IPFS, Tribler, Zeronet, Freenet, Webtorrent, Cabal, Holepunch and other technologies are the logical conclusion of the small web. With P2P technology, if your file goes mega viral, you don't get a giant web hosting bill because everyone else helped share the burden with their own connection.

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@pixelfed You might want to consider using Webtorrent or IPFS as your CDN since if something goes viral it won't result in overloading the server.

I joined the Mastodon board https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2024/04/mastodon-forms-new-u.s.-non-profit/ to support the fediverse and the people helping to build it. Looking forward to working with the team and fellow board members to embed and evolve how we work.

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@karienbez Will this nonprofit operate any mastodon servers or fund mastodon related work, or will it simply be a satellite of the german nonprofit.

@jon @Vivaldi I found this free as in freedom search engine called SearxNG at https://github.com/searxng/searxng and https://docs.searxng.org/. Does vivaldi have any plans to roll its own search engine? Also, when will Brave Search, Metager and Yandex be added as options for default search engines for English speaking users like me? edit: punctuation

So what does it mean for a browser to have AI built in? Does it mean that it is using your browsing data? Is it using it for ads or for profiling?

Is AI just another reason to collect your data? What are the so-called AI browsers doing today?

Would you use a browser that has AI built in?

I have provided three choices. The first one is that you want AI and do not care if the data is used for ads and profiling. Two : you do not want AI at all. Three: Want AI, but only if the data is not used for other purposes, such as ads and profiling.

JoeBecomeTheSun,

Only if it is actually useful as a sidebar widget that doesn't get in the way and it is independently built and run. I would like to see an AI that is trained from the common crawl, from sci-hub, from github/gitlab/codeberg/sourceforge, from libgen and from open access journals in addition to web-pages and wikipedia. In my view training AI ought to be fair use so long as the outputs are not considered copyrightable or patentable subject matter as far as the law goes.

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@jon I literally only use opera to use GPT4 for free.

Trump's 2nd-term economic agenda would hurt workers & kids to help the rich. He wants to:

-Cut taxes more for the rich
-Defund the IRS so the rich can cheat
-End student loan forgiveness
-End overtime rules
-Slash school lunches
-Allow child labor
-Weaken unions

Be warned.

JoeBecomeTheSun,

@rbreich Abolish the 16th amendment.
