Why doesn't it surprise me that the Indiana MAGA AG appeals a court ruling that finds the current system of not allowing voters to select judges for a county with many minorities violates civil rights voting legislation?
Somehow, in his mind, downstate politicians from the GOP supermajority should dictate who gets to be judges at the county level.
“Paul Manafort, the longtime Republican strategist and chairman of Trump’s 2016 campaign, who had assumed unpaid role advising party officials on the nominating convention, has stepped aside.
Manafort’s move came after NYT reported that he had been on the ground in Milwaukee last week for planning meetings for the convention, as well as a Washington Post story that said he was involved in work connected to foreign officials and businesses.”
I just saw an attack ad against Mike Braun on YouTube that calls him a RINO squish.
I guess Braun wanting to outlaw interracial marriage, outlaw birth control, outlaw any privacy rights and plunge the US back into the Jim Crow era isn't enough for the party faithful.
Trump probably isn't enough for what those groups want to do to America.
@KrissyKat I saw one that called him a “BLM loving RINO squish”. “BLM loving” puts a nice fresh touch on an old Klansman classic, don’t you think? Like, really, we’re doing this again? How bout let’s just fucking not.
(See below) I learned the sniper was just watching over the people, (how nice) the protesters were mean and scary (so we take 'em away & let the judge decide 1A), the counter protesters made sure to not look at the police so they were ignored (respect mah authority), IU's President asked tough questions (if we have nukes, why don't we use them?), and any reports that the protests are peaceful are anecdotal (so release the hounds).
@KrissyKat I talked with one of the arrestees. They said that the cops were absolutely brutal; and they are not a person prone to exaggeration. I’m not really an abolish-the-police guy, but sometimes it seems like the police are working overtime to change my mind about that.
Here in Indianapolis, we had a totality around 3pm EST. The bird chatter was deafening all afternoon around the feeders, but once totality hit, it was dead silent (not one peep) until the sun came back. And the temperature dropped about 10 degrees. #eclipse#TotalSolarEclipse#HoosierMast
We saw it from Indy too. I was more wowed, somehow, than I was by the last one that we drove to Tennessee for. Any idea what the bright red point was that we saw at the bottom of the corona?
@sqgl@justicesandwich@nicholas_saunders@Properganda@sickmatter Seems like your fog of war only goes one way, though. Evidence of war crimes on Hamas’ part is evidence of war crimes, but evidence of war crimes on Israel’s part is conspiracy theories, fog of war and antisemitism. Humans fall into atrocities easily; we’re not singling out the IDF as the only military that ever war crimed. But the evidence is there.
@justicesandwich@sqgl@nicholas_saunders@Properganda@sickmatter It’s a hell of a lot of leveled hospitals, shot-up food lines, rejected aid trucks and dead aid workers to chalk up to accidents. My source for this stuff is the New York Times. The Times has a bias towards rich, powerful liberal institutionalists, but antisemitic it ain’t.
@8124@Properganda Looks to me like one article says the hospital was destroyed, and the next says the area around it was destroyed. If it makes more sense to you to assume that virtually all major news outlets are lying about Gaza, than that they might be basically truthful, then I don’t think we’re going to find a lot of epistemological common ground, and we may as well not argue.
@8124@Properganda No, I absolutely don’t. I perceive repeated reporting from multiple sources in multiple reputable news outlets, on partial to total destruction of multiple hospitals in Gaza, as evidence of many hospitals being targeted.
@8124@Properganda Yes to all of that. And it does boggle my mind to see people quibbling over the details of exactly how many women Hamas actually raped or exactly how many babies they killed, as if that would somehow change the fact of Oct 7 being a horrific act of inexpressible evil.
@snarkysteff That’s just silly. I used to start my own seeds; I have the equipment and knowledge, and I used to enjoy it . But now I have four kids and four animals and too little space and time, and am only putting out single-digit numbers of plants. It makes much more sense to pay one of the nice folks at the farmers market to start the seeds for me. (And also, for most crops, to grow the food for me; but if is nice to have tomatoes and herbs in the backyard.).
