“Companies need to move really fast, even if that includes skipping a few steps along the way. The user experience will just have to catch up.”

This is absolutely insane and shows what contempt at a deep level so many in the tech industry have for the people who have to use what they make

@grmpyprogrammer when I started in IT we were obsessed by quality, in my soft Eng degree quality was the goal hammered in to us, now it’s all about velocity, as if everything is a here today gone tomorrow saas cat sitting app. Rant over 😂

The fact that this presidential immunity question is being discussed in SCOTUS makes this nation look like the land of morons. Seriously.🙄

Threads

I know it will irk some of you that some of us have Threads accounts.

My heart is with open protocols and Mastodon.

But.

The reason I do legal commentary is that I think promoting the public understanding of law is a good thing.

As such the wider reach the better - a public good.

I am also a writer, and the wider I can cast links to my Substack which provides financial means for me to justify using time for commentary, the better for me, as a private good.

I am sorry to irk.

MelvilleSpence,

@davidallengreen It’s a rational decision, as long as people understand the privacy risks

@ramsey OK
For the love of God learn #PHP before touching a framework like #symfony or #laravel
There’s a pretty good #laravel learning path at Laracasts that starts with #PHP

The goal is always the same — destroy public services so the only viable options are private ones with connections to the government in power. This is how we have ended up with psychopathic tech bros in charge of everything because they have made it so you have to be concerned on how to survive from your non-elite birth until your pauper-like death https://mastodon.green/@adambienkov/110640760982004925

@grmpyprogrammer if you think it’s bad now, wait until people on state pensions/benefits can only use their cashless chip at approved outlets and be limited to poor quality goods & services on lists drawn up by people like Braverman & Jenrick. Dystopia for many is just around the corner.

IMO as a developer, when you start saying “why should I learn all this new stuff to do my job” it is a sign that your days doing this work are numbered.

MelvilleSpence,
@MelvilleSpence@phpc.social avatar

@grmpyprogrammer unless you are prepared to commit to lifelong learning isn’t the career for you.
If you are not prepared to make your IT a learning organisation, save yourself grief and don’t startup.
