Today, in its infinite wisdoms, our United States federal government released new rules for people traveling with or importing/exporting animals into/out of the US from other countries-- including Canada and other rabies free/low risk countries. There are no exceptions for service animals. These rules go into effect on 1 August. I return from Canada on 25 July. Boy did I luck out, holy fuck! Also WTF, Government, you have just made so many peoples' lives about a billion times more complicated

Having a rough body pain day.

@dyani Oh for real. Pre-pandemic I used to go visit a float tank and the first time in it, I cried.

Perfect temp water, floating in darkness. Finally not bombarded with sensations, it was INCREDIBLE.

@dyani I had a regular hot tub when I was growing up and I miss it SO much. Really really nice for the back. And in the summer we'd kill the heat and just have a nice jet room-temp tub.

✔ Finalize and email out tomorrow's schedule for the barn
✔ Full self-care shower (inc hair, shaving, and foot scrub)
✔ Send end-of-term potluck sign-up email for the barn

🍴 Finish clearing to the dining table and get that set up
📦 Unpack and put away kitchen stuff
✈ Carefully plan a trip next month
🧶 Finish the hair for my Ukrainian amigurumi doll
📚 Start reading books at bedtime again, not scrolling insta reels

I am absolutely savoring the last few cold weather days. Opening all the windows to make it as cold as possible inside, putting on my comfy sweatshirt and leggings, making hot tea. I don't want it to end 😭

@dyani For real. I 100000% have reverse SAD, where I struggle with depression more in the summer.

It's so hot, I'm so uncomfortable in my body for months. I can't do anything, moving around is awful. My pain levels are worse when I get overheated. It's terrible. I'm already excited for autumn

@dyani IDK if we have, but yeah... not many ppl out here hating summer. And like, I'm not unsympathetic to ppl who struggle in the winter. It's dark and cold and I know that trips a lot of depression switches.

For me something that I discovered last year from someone in my crafting discord is a body deodorant called LUME. It's a cream and a stick. I use it under my tummy and "down there" stay WAY fresher, even in ridiculous heat.

@dyani This year they released one that is combo deodorant AND sweat control I wanna try.

But yeah, it's AMAZING and I love it.

Then I just tend to wear a bralette to keep the boobs off my chest, and loose fitting natural fibers for clothes. It's what people in warmer countries wear and they're definitely onto something.

(also I was totally born w/o the temperature regulation ability, it sucks ASS).

@dyani I've only had luck with Torrid bralettes. They are just supportive enough, comfortable, and don't trip my skin sensitivity issues.

I'm sure tank tops come in linen! I mostly wear cotten knit ones, or like rayon which I've found to be pretty comfy.

@jtheseamstress @dyani Oh reverse SAD is definitely a thing. I mean the core of it is that some seasons can exacerbate depression.

Well, summer and all the things that come along with it make my depression worse.

I agree, summer used to be less crummy. But as it gets hotter and hotter, and the smoke from the wildfires here too... it's just shit now.

@ifixcoinops I used to do this a lot before wildfire season. Unfortunately the last few years the hottest days have also been combined with a literal forecast of "Toxic Air" and warnings not to open doors/windows/go outside.

Weeeeee.

This does work in my new place just with the two upstairs windows tho! One side of the place is always cooler, one hotter. So I leave both windows open and enjoy a cross breeze upstairs til the temp climbs in the AM.

Ran a very fun combat session today for my Margreve campaign.

One of those fun encounters where there were multiple objectives and several moving parts! Players had to rescue captives from chambers, and some of the captives were already rolling death saves when combat began.

Having the players exist in a world where things are happening behind the scenes is so much more fun than a static-staged set.

Ugh. Turns out that the one-time-payment-to-remove-ads offline music player app I had on my phone before I had to factory restore it had moved to a subscription model (with a substantially higher price per months too) at some point.

Anyone got any others? I was using RocketPlayer.

It specifically needs to be offline, playing files from the phone's memory and with support for playlists. Preferably no ads, or under AU$10 to remove ads, and not a subscription model.
