Today's D&D session was so fun. The players are embarking on an adventure that was designed to tie into one character's backstory, and by a lovely bit of serendipity, tied into a new character's story too!
My players are loosening up, getting more RP in that isn't directed by me. I think I'm really starting to come into my own as a DM too. Obviously lots to learn, but I'm feeling more and more comfortable with it.
The downtime mechanic went pretty well I think. Folks picked up on it quickly.
Some good shopping was done. And then off to the mystery! I'm definitely growing as a DM. Feeling more confident inhabiting NPCs related to my players, etc.
I hope my players are having fun, that I'm setting the scene well, giving hints when needed.
Got a few new players who are really into the RP and that's helping a ton!
My DM just gave my lvl 4 Barbarian a +2 Greatsword...
And I just hit a 20 Str.
With a +9 to hit I'm having a fucking GREAT time.
Great Weapon Master ALL THE WAY.
I am sad that this party isn't overly inclined to RP. I've tried to get some going... nada. But the DM has given me some beautiful moments that made me (the player) tear up.
Thinking about doing some kind of a journal or something to really give this character the story she deserves.
I am looking to fill a seat at the table for both of my D&d campaigns. (you don't have to commit to both! Just that both games currently have space)
Allow me to encourage you that if you've never played and always wanted to and you're nervous that you'll slow things down or w/e... my table is the table for you. EVERYONE at my table knows we're playing with new folks, most of them are too. It's relaxed, I try to accommodate as much as possible. Would love to have you.
We use roll20 to play the game, and I have a discord that we use for voice.
I offer the ability to RP in voice or via typing (several folks do both, or one or the other). I'm very happy to discuss accommodations that you need to help you feel able to play!
I allow physical dice, and I am very happy to help you learn what numbers from your sheet you add to the dice for various rolls.
Truly I mean it when I say I would love to be your intro to D&D.
Had a good D&D session this morning. My players continue to stealth thru an abandoned gryphon tower. The Ratatosk Druid decided to break stealth and try to befriend a corrupted ogre chieftan, and while I can respect the hustle... it ended with two big attacks.
Then the barbarian tried to chuck her (ogre) off the edge of the tower. No joy, so now the wizard has her hanging off the edge, and there's a whole round of player turns before it's the chieftan's turn again.
They did manage to find some documents in the sekrit scrying room which I hope will springboard us into the next adventure, and referenced an earlier adventure in the campaign too. So that was fun.
I'm really starting to get more of a feel for DMing. Still have so far to go vs my inspirations, Her Highness Aabria Iyengar, and His Grace Brennan Lee Mulligan. But, my players do seem to be having fun and that matters!
And that, my friends, is how my Eladrin Barbarian wound up Fey Stepping to the back of a solar dragon and then getting a Nat20 on the Reckless Attack :D
Pieces of the puzzle begin to fit together, as our Investigators follow leads to a retirement community where the elderly movie director fills in historical gaps to paint an even more disturbing picture of what happened that night...
DM achievement unlocked: I had the "big bad" successfully convince the party NOT to complete their secondary goal and talked them around to her way of seeing things :D
Was really fun. My table is all new players it led to an OOC discussion about right/wrong choices (there aren't usually any) in D&D. How it's my job to try and keep it on the rails, regardless of choice... if that's needed or just roll with it in some great collaborative storytelling!
TLDR: A magical honey bee queen was befriended by a young girl ~50yrs ago. In order to "protect" the girl from the ravishes of life (and time) the queen fed her honey and put her in an ageless sleep. The girl now has the ability to possess a swarm of bees to move around and interact.
The queen convinced the players NOT to rescue the girl, because who would care for her now? All her family is gone, etc. She is safe and loved.
Player: What would it take for me to do <insert the most completely batshit thing you've ever heard>?
Me (DM): flippantly because it's dumb Roll a nat 20.
Player: does
The entire table: <see gif>
Yay all prepped for tonight's D&D session. It's the Ghibli campaign and I'm excited.
Last time the players saved the soot sprites and were rewarded with magical candy and the sprites performing an epic German opera commemorating the events.
C'est parti pour le live de fin de financement de l'Empire des Oubliés.
Venez donc discuter avec nous. Nous allons aussi faire de petits jeux 😁
Il ne reste plus que 155€ pour atteindre l'objectif !
D&D session this morning was alright. The first hour tho was one of the dudes talking about his trip to Japan. Like fun... but an HOUR?!
Anyways once we got into it was pretty fun. We have allowed ourselves to be taken captive by a Yuan Ti Nightmare Speaker in order to facilitate a coup.
Appearances can be deceiving, and it's always better to view the world through multiple prisms rather than jump to conclusions that might steer you in the wrong direction...
