Yesterday i replaced a SSD in one of my home servers. The amount of dust was terrible. A very thin and consistent layer of dust in all the insides. What tips can you share to attenuate dust inside our boxes? #homelab#homeserver
@ironicbadger so much for that One Cable lie… USB-C im looking at you!. Good speed kind soul, may you find peace in the journey ahead… by the way, I’m just pulling your hair, my cable runs are also like that… a thing I don’t touch ever :(
@ironicbadger Hallo!, listening to the latest Selfhosted podcast. Dont know if the whole internet started telling you, but racknerd is supposedly to be a very self hosted option for Colo - https://racknerd.com/colocation
In this week's @linuxmatters@marxjohnson continues his home server migration, @wimpy stresses his server with some delightful stress-free tools, and @popey does some coding in PHP for "Fun" - would you believe?! WIth thanks to @bigcalm for a tip used in this week's show!
@ironicbadger Alex I know this is a lot, but your comments about the insanely big home server got me thinking on my fleet of smallish ones, my question is, how is the noise with the big box?
@popey yeah, so. Here comes the internet :). Very silly question, instead of hosting in hetzner, did you consider hosting a server at home with a smallish vps as webproxy? Not from the UK, so I imagine that costs of hosting are home are comparable to renting a dedicated? More than questioning, I would like to understand the differences from my country :). Oh! Btw, I don’t like docker either, I do LXC “containers” in proxmox, so, +1 to Martin on his alternative.
I suppose it's not rocket surgery to figure out which is the real me here. How/should one report these kinds of things for investigation? I never much cared on Twitter about imposters because reporting them never did anything. These are all using my Twitter photo for profile pics.
@briankrebs you wont have much success :(, look at the domains for those instances. I guess Mastodon devs rely on all of us giving our profile including instance domain + the validation of your profile and attach it to a “real” domain name is free
🚨 FRIDAY QUIZ TIME 🚨
I have just provisioned a new dedicated #Linux server. It's been deployed running #Ubuntu 22.04.3. I SSH'ed in as root, given the provided credentials. 🤓
QUESTION: What's the very first command I typed after logging in? 🤔
@popey and now the follow up question is, when can we see the post of what that little monster will be doing?
Was that like a fantastic offer? Can i affor one? XD
The most cyberpunk thing you can do these days is go back to low tech, open and feed a blog, open and feed a tilde site, do something that is not hosted in the big platforms. If you dont know how to host your own, search for tildeverse, neocities, etc. support the internet not to have a digital lock with a google/meta login-password
@popey@linuxmatters i thank you for reconsidering having a Podcast, which i can tell feels way less stressful for you all, as conversations and topics are more relaxed. I’m a fan.
@wimpy@popey@linuxmatters i would love to read that (and thank you for continuing ye’ olde art of blogging, i should resurrect mine…) is NIX OS part of the equation?
Episode 3 of Ask The Hosts will be in the public feeds later this week so it's time to think about recording episode 4. If you reply to this with your question about anything except Linux and open source, a random selection of LNL Family hosts might answer it!
@JoeRess real problem with Merch is shipping, living in a “no major” country changes merch proce from 15-30 USD to double or more. I’d be willing to pay 15-30 for a “thing” but shipping proces is what always put me off :(
