People who may have been exposed to the virus in the following locations should monitor for symptoms:

Air India flight AI 302 from Delhi to Sydney, arriving in Sydney on Saturday 20 January at 8.10am.
Sydney airport – Terminal 1 international arrivals (including baggage claim and customs) and Bay 9, bus and coach bays, on the morning of Saturday 20 January
Murrays Sydney to Canberra express bus, departing Sydney international airport around 10.30am on Saturday 20 January. ACT Health is contacting individuals who travelled on this bus service.
The director of the communicable diseases branch of NSW Health, Dr Christine Selvey, said while these locations pose no ongoing risk, if you, or someone you know, were on this flight or visited the above locations at those times it is important to be on the lookout for symptoms:

The only place Morrison is fit for is the horror that Republican US has become. He will thrive in their hate-ridden patriarchal cult churches.

It's so weird that you can "follow Jane Austen" on Amazon.

I get what it means in reality, but every time I see links like that I imagine what a horror show so many of these long-dead authors would find Amazon.

@peachfront @hollie @bookstodon I often wonder how much Jane Austen would enjoy all the films made of her books. I believe she would be thrilled and delighted that her stories were so widely known. Also, perhaps glad that her marvellous tongue-in-cheek exposure of the restrictive social conventions of her day fully appreciated.

Israel has - over the last 50 years - been truly adroit at manipulating monolithic main stream media message flow. The advent of social media has made main stream media less important. So we're now able to get different views of current events from different international news sources.

Thirty or 40 years ago, most Westerners would have had the following take:
"Israel is good. They were fucked over by the Nazis and they need a safe place to live. Israelis are nice white people in suits, speaking English eloquently. Arabs are bad. Brown men with big beards, wearing funny clothes, always shouting in weird languages and waving AK47s at us. Islam is misogynistic terrorism."

Now, it's: "Hey, wait a minute. Israel is doing bad things. Israel is stealing Palestinian land and treating Palestinians like shit. That's not right. This is not about religion, it's about land. And fairness."

But our politicians and our political systems are locked in to historical relationships and commitments made long ago. It now seems that politicians are only able to speak unfiltered truth when they are no longer actively participating in legacy political systems. See attached link.

The future is already here, it's just unevenly distributed. Our political systems and their outcomes are out of date. They are completely unprepared to respond to today's reality.

I really can't recommend Gordon Doherty's Empires of Bronze series enough - it's written really well and he clearly has done his research. What's really fascinating is that the story is ultimately a sad one - the Sea Peoples essentially end up wiping out most Bronze Age civs (other than the Egyptians), but the story has a hopeful ending. The author also does a great job of separating fact from fiction.

My favourites and good starters are the Sarantine Mosaic and Beyond Heaven.

I am fed up with institutions, businesses, etc who send out email pdf forms for completion and signature, but do not make them interactive.

We do not all bother to have printers at home or access to those at work.

It is highly inconvenient to expect people, often elderly, to get them printed in a library, or maybe post office, complete and then return by post.

I am happy to see less paper being used and it is easy to provide interactive forms. Am going to start writing to Ministers and Gov Depts as this has happened several times lately.

Are others finding this happens to them ?

Katharine Murphy, whose weekend articles always bring me back to a better informed and more balanced viewpoint after distressing weeks.

'The return of a government focused on governing – getting on with substantive things, sometimes not quickly or elegantly enough, but nonetheless ploughing on, trying to do some good rather than fussing obsessively over internecine score-settling, wedging and the dreaded optics – is a welcome development from where I sit.'

I am guilty of wishing the PM was bolder and louder at times, but this article reminds that there are many improvements gradually and steadily being achieved.

Heaven forbid we allow impatience to take us back to Duttonesque aggression or Morrison spectacle ever again.

Albanese is prioritising governing over spectacle – but in an era of zero-sum politics, is it enough?
