This is an interesting example of green nudging. The word "Vegan" does indeed carry a lot of baggage that some people shy away from. If you label the same “Vegan” product as “Plant Based”, there is often less resistance.

@andycarolan Just as long as the little Vegan Society logos are kept though to make vegan identification easy for those of us who need it (and whose eyes no longer appreciate tiny-font ingredient lists!)
My problem with 'plant based' as a label is that it doesn't guarantee 'vegan'. I've seen egg listed in plantbased products before (admittedly a few years ago now) and even one butcher cheekily describing cow meat as plant based because the cows had eaten grass before they were killed 🙄

Have you ever been told you are too quiet and you should talk more?

StephanieJane,
@StephanieJane@veganism.social avatar

@autism101 @actuallyautistic Yes!! This was on every single one of my school reports.
I also remember trying to ask my Mum what I should say in order to "talk more". She replied that I should just join in with conversations as though that was an easy thing to do (and an idea that I wasn't already failing miserably at!).
In hindsight thought, I wonder if Mum didn't actually have a very similar autism to mine so she couldn't helpfully advise me (i.e. with the literal phrases to use in specific situations) because she faced the very same problem of not knowing them herself.

I'd very much like to see a list of those MPs who complained, although I could make a good guess at some of them.

GPLB: "Giving evidence to the Commons Standards Committee this morning, Penny Mordaunt said several MPs had complained to her that the 10-day threshold meant there were no “middle options” for sanctioning misbehaving MPs short of seeing them potentially losing their seat."

StephanieJane,

@fkamiah17 Or they could just Not Misbehave? A radical thought, I know 😠

Part of the Criminal Justice Bill currently being debated in Parliament would criminalise people sleeping on the streets with fines of up to £2,500*, or a prison sentence.
Forcibly destroying their tents just isn't enough for these bastards.

*This is fifty times more than Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak were fined for repeatedly breaking multiple laws during Covid.

@RickiTarr I just found a website about rice cooker cooking, thanks to your comment. I'd never thought to do anything other than rice in ours (although it does do the rice beautifully).

A whole new culinary genre opens up!!

StephanieJane,
@StephanieJane@veganism.social avatar

@RickiTarr It works!!! Of course, you already knew that, but I'm so pleased with today's meal 😍 And cooking three portions only cost about 10p in electricity which is an unexpected economic bonus.
Looking forward to creating lots more rice cooker delights. Thank you so much for the tip 💚

people! 😀
Isn't the most important meal of the day?
For the past four? years, that's been my go-to. Two medium bananas, 40g of peanut butter, and a generous sprinkle of cinnamon!
Is this another TMI moment?
My family thinks I'm a bit of a weirdo. 🧐
What's your go-to breakfast? I am curious to know. 😊

StephanieJane,
@StephanieJane@veganism.social avatar

@elizach Porridge with sultanas for us, and a mug of black coffee too.
I like having an easily followed routine first thing because I am not a morning person at all. It really throws me when we occasionally stay with family and they start throwing options at me (verbally, not literally!) before I've even finished my coffee.

Your banana/PB/cinnamon combo looks delicious though. I think I would like that as my afternoon snack 😋

StephanieJane,
@StephanieJane@veganism.social avatar

@elizach Are you in the UK? If so, the Kavanagh's oats at Aldi are my favourites.

I've just been adding to my Ko-Fi page. If you're looking for new meal ideas, especially basic vegan cookery for new participants, I might have some ideas you'll like!

This link goes to an index of existing recipes https://ko-fi.com/post/Main-Meal-recipes-index-Z8Z64L0LS with subpages for Sweet Treats, Snacks & Salads, and Drinks.

I'll be publishing the pictured recipes - Purple Soup, Veggie Parcel Pies, Chai Arroz Doce, and Lentil Beanburgers - plus some others over the next fortnight.

Enjoy ☺️

A rectangular pastry pie containing diced veggies and vegan mince, similar to a Cornish pasty style filling
Two small plastic bowls, each containing a portion of rice pudding topped with a scattering of demerara sugar
Ingredients I used to make a batch of Lentil Beanburgers. Includes green lentils, blackeyed beans, onion, red pepper, breadcrumbs, rapeseed oil and tinned tomatoes.

I just had a survey from Caffe Nero as I visit their stores a lot. Sadly, they still have a long way to go with their Vegan food options, and also their survey.

One of the questions gives an option confirming that I’m Vegan don't want meat/animal choices, then the next one asks which of the animal product dishes I would eat, so I picked the “none of these" option… the next question gives two options, both of which contain egg. The survey stalls there as it needs an answer.

StephanieJane,
@StephanieJane@veganism.social avatar

@andycarolan That's so frustrating! Not even being able to complete the survey as a vegan means your voice won't be heard at all.

A question for folks on Mastodon - what's your favourite for legumes and pulses recipes?

I want to use more different types of beans, peas and lentils in my cooking, and fancy a nice new (or second-hand!) cookery book to guide me.

@Lodra @kttnpunk Another other alternative is that when the fharmed species of these animals - which have been specifically and unnaturally engineered by us over many generations solely to fulfil our desires from their bodies - are no longer forcibly bred, this would free up vast areas of land on which their wild brethren would be able to flourish, unmolested, again.
To claim breeding animals solely to kill them is the only way to stop them going extinct is disingenuous at best.
