Good morning people of the Fediverse!

Last week we moved offices to the other side of the tower. I enjoy my new view.

Fun fact: that large boat on the Danube is actually a school.

SteveClough,
@SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

@derthomas @derthomas That is a view! Nice. Can you direct some metal to the school though? Teach them soemthing important.

I am always intrigued by the "Explicit" flag on metal songs (especially the less mainstream material).

a) Most of the time, you cannot actually hear the lyrics close enough for it to matter.

b) How come you are listening to a band called "Satans Arse Products"* and NOT expect there to be some strong language?

*Just a made up example, as far as I know.

    @jonobie I watched the films I think. I didn't see this so much, but get what you are saying.

    In truth I was getting tired of the "plucky non-conformists beat society" story, so probably didn't pick up specifics like this.

    For anyone who might have missed it last week, I wrote an article about why I switched from Gmail to Proton Mail and you can read it and hopefully share it with others via the link below.

    https://blog.allthingstech.social/why-i-switched-from-gmail-to-proton-mail/

    @protonmail also suggested that I apply for the partner program, which I did but haven't heard back yet. Hoping to hear back in the next day or two and hoping that I get accepted.

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @cliffwade @protonmail I do wonder about changing. I would like to move away from Google, but need to be certain that it is going to last and not be subject to the usual problems.

    Advice appreciated.

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @protonmail @cliffwade In fairness, I have heard a lot of good things about Proton. I was asking partly to see if there were any similar comparable services.

    I will have to consider my options.

    Trump’s White House Was ‘Awash in Speed’

    The "Medical Unit was “like the Wild West,” & staffers had easy access to powerful stimulants & sedatives"

    In Jan., "the Defense Department’s inspector general released a report detailing how [Trump's White House] distributed controlled substances with scant oversight & even sloppier record keeping. Investigators repeatedly noted that the unit had ordered thousands & thousands of doses of the stimulant modafinil"

    @chargrille We do need to do drug testing on political representatives (UK and US). There is no way people sould be in charge of decision making when off their heads on drugs (including alcohol).

    If they can't function without, they should get a proper job instead.

    I would like to see a party campaign with "Getting drugs out of legislature".

    I'm thinking about metalhead.club advertising.

    So many people haven't heard of this place, even though it might be just right for them.

    Traditional advertising is very ineffective with my/our resources. As far as I know, it's only worthwhile with advertising budgets in the five-figure range.

    I would like to rely on personal contacts because I hope that "the right" people will come here and fewer people who want to cause trouble or sabotage.

    @thomas I don't yet know, but since I had my t-shirt and cards I haven't been out to any gigs (and only worn it once).

    As the spring and summer approach I will wear it more and have the cards with me and see.

    As well as Nobel prizes, for those who have made a global difference in various areas, why don't we have a Bellend prize, for people who have made a global bellend of themselves?

    I mean Trump would be a clear winner at the moment, but some of our UK politicians could also have been in competition.

    Never heard of The Stone Roses before. I am now playing their self titled album and judging by that, I'd say they're yet another 2000s indie band.

    But they are not.

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @derthomas You have never heard of the Stone Roses?

    Wow - they were massive indie band, iconic, definitive. Sort of poor-mans Radiohead.

    Never really got into them myself, I found them a bit psychodelic/hippy influenced for my liking (My Hawkwind phase was well past).

    Listening to another release from

    It is with their debut album "To To Watch With Hands... To Touch With Eyes"

    This one sounds really interesting, it has a very 70s early heavy metal vibe to it.

    I also really like the album cover.

    @derthomas You are stupid.

    Oh sorry, that wasn't a requirement. No you are not.

    It is on my queue (for sometime in the future!). The Rainbow/Dio style sounds good. Are we talking Deep Purple influence, rather than, Sabbath or Motorhead then? For this "Traditional Early Metal" (Surely - Iron Age Metal?)

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @derthomas It is on my list. I like Purple - I think they count as hard rock not metal, but they provided a lot of influence to some metal bands. And produced bands like Gillan of course, who are metal.

    It will always blow my mind that Fundies use the Bible to explain why women should be submissive uneducated stay at home baby machines, while the Bible's own description of the "Perfect" woman is a Land owning female boss who is praised by her husband and her city for her contributions.

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @Sir_Osis_of_Liver @RickiTarr IMO, it is a collection of wisdom worth reading and exploring, using to explore my faith and faith in a general sense.

    The problem comes when the books are used as if they are - in English - a compeletly definitive set of rules - that anythign you can find in them is then law. That is your a la carte theology.

    It is not meant as that. There are those of us who have a faith but who see it a lot more flexibly.

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @RickiTarr @Sir_Osis_of_Liver Absolutely. And I am not meaning to dismiss the fact that there are many (or at least vocal) people who combine the title of Christian with hate speech and hateful interpretations.

    Bad Labour are better than Good Tory. It is still very true.

    What we have currently is Bad Tory - really Bad Tory. And the alternative is Bad Labour - as Stamer has clearly shown. Bad Labour sucks like a black hole, but it is still better than Tory.

    And they both show that the current shambolic system is broken.

    @guyholmes @DoubleTreble @jbond @Geri @jaycee I have stood for the Greens in council elections. I think it is always a challenge to know how to vote. Green is not always the right option, but also, Green votes are needed.

    I struggled - and will again - because it is Tory vs LibDem here. I think a Green vote is OK, because the LibDem is likely to be fine. But our system is broken, we need PR, because we need to be able to vote positively, not negatively.

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @robparsons @guyholmes @DoubleTreble @jbond @Geri @jaycee I totally hear you. But I think the Tories are ended here - we lost one who was involved in the expenses scandal, and replaced them with someone who is really impressing.

    And Greens need votes too. Because the Green message is an important one. To say that the bipartisan political farce we have is wrong.

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @robparsons @guyholmes @DoubleTreble @jbond @Geri @jaycee Which is why Green (which was the context of that quote). And is why I am reluctant to vote "tactically" where it is not needed.

    I know Tories have a tendancy to return from the dead, or even stand despite being brain dead. But I do feel that they will stay in the grave here. I mean, if they knock at my door, they will get an earful.

    SteveClough,

    I also worked for a council, and the subservience that was paid to councillors always made me want to puke. Now I have worked with people in the Greens who are councillors, I know that some of them can be decent people.

    Some of them are wankers.
