"Starmer has denied he exerted pressure on Hoyle: But he would say that, wouldn't he? Starmer has repeatedly lied before, his words are meaningless now. Starmer has proven he's a nasty and undemocratic authoritarian, every bit as vile as the Tories he claims so desperately to be a change from. This grubby and sordid episode is a foretaste of what we are in for with a Starmer government."

Paul Kavanagh in @TheNational.

@MadeyeTheCarnaptious @TheNational The thing is, yes, Labour were playing poltics as they always do.

BUT it is the role of the speaker to tell them no. It is the speakers job to resist and unhold the non-partisan nature of his role. He utterly failed in this (and very publically).

A speaker who cannot resist political pressure cannot remain.

Labour's Excuses: Disgusting, Deceptive, and Dangerous
Lindsay Hoyle, Labour MPs, and Starmer's media outriders are all parroting the same duplicitous post hoc lies about how they had to debase parliamentary procedure for the safety of MPs. https://anotherangryvoice.substack.com/p/labours-excuses-disgusting-deceptive?utm_source=profile&utm_medium=reader2

SteveClough,
@SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

@HazelWood SNP: We call for a ceasefire

Labour: We cannot support that. We call for a ceasefire, but in red.

Tories: We want it in Blue.

And it is all just pathetic words as we are continuing to supply the weapons anyway.

The utter meaninglessness of our current parliament. Safety of MPs? I think by showing how pointless they are, they have endangered all MPs.

Reading in the foreword to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea that Verne originally envisioned Captain Nemo as a Polish noble on an underwater campaign of vengeance against the Russian Empire that'd killed his entire family, but that this version was pronounced unprintable by his publisher for political reasons. @bookstodon

SteveClough,

@Seanochicago @mattmcirvin @eivind @bookstodon In fairness, mortality was high in those days, so there is a possibility of one dying.

But there wasn't the same level of forensic assessment that we get these days. I am not saying it was better or worse, just different.

So while my first month of getting in shape again was quite successful, I hit a hard wall this month. I knew that it's gonna be hard but there was barely any progress (weightwise) since 10 days, and yesterday, all of a sudden I had 1,1 kg more than the day before? WTF?

I am still eating barely any sweets (about 4 pieces of cake this month alltogether), I still do sports, I still eat less.

I feel slimmer, my skin feels slimmer, there's definitely progress, I can feel it. But fuck the scales.

SteveClough,
@SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

@derthomas Weight can vary by a kilo based on all sorts of things (like what you ate). So I wouldn't worry too much.

I weight weekly, and i know that it can vary if I had a big meal the day before. As long as there is a longer-term movement in the right direction, it is fine.

SteveClough,
@SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

@derthomas @yourfutureex I am not into calorie counting or stuff. My weight is reasonably stable, which is why I check it.

But I am happy with my weight. I think people should be happy with however they are made. Adjust if you want, but don't be body shamed or weight shamed.

I had some thoughts about stuff I could toot during my morning run, but I'll spam your timelines with my current Kreator Metaljourney anyhow, so here's what I thought about:

  • my getting in shape journey
  • my use of content warnings
  • friends I made in here
  • if you live somewhere elevated, the last part of your run is always uphill

SteveClough,
@SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

@derthomas @yourfutureex I have to say, I tend to CW anything that any group of my followers might not like. As I have diverse followers (for all sorts of reasons) some stuff does impact one group while another don't care.

I CW a lot more than I used to. Because some things trigger me as well, at certain times. So I think about what might be an issue for others.

Training course (online video) with a trainer who has a slightly camp/affected accent, a little like a mild version of Lloyd Grossman (for those who know).

It is an unpleasant accent to have to listen to (IMO). I really want to get to the end.

@melissabeartrix No, and also, I don't believe I have ever asked to see the manager.

Because as well as not being called Karen, I am not a prick*.

@SailorDisco @melissabeartrix That is not a Karen moment, IMO. That is asking someone to do something right.

I am a huge fan.
I never listened to any of their pre "Violent Revolution" albums.

Is this a contradiction?

Well, I tell you one thing: it is reason enough for me to do another 🤘

Is there a better song title than...

🎵 Endless Pain

...to kick this journey off? I think not.

Why is it, in any Sci-Fy story, if something is damaged, is throws out loads of sparks, and usually explodes?

I mean, it seems like a basic design flaw. That those advanced cultures should have sorted.

SteveClough,
@SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

@sidereal Yeah, I get that. But I think there needs to be an update to the trope. I am watching Enterprise. It is jsut everytime something is disrupted, it showers sparks.Again and again.

It feels like a very tired imagery these days.

Feb 8th. Which words do you overuse? Be honest.

The number of sentences I start with "So." ....

Most other overused words I catch as long as they are in a short space, although I tend to lookout for them elsewhere as well once identified.

By the by, Computer Power and Human Reason is probably one of the most important books in computer science and literally everyone should read it (it’s not very technical).

It argues that 1) machines and humans are innately different and 2) there is tasks that computers should never be made to do, regardless of if they can actually do it.

Extremely pertinent to the AI hype, by probably the topmost authority in AI, the MIT professor who invented the ELiZA program.

I would so like to read it, and am surprised I didn't find it in my research time (when I could have borrowed it from a library!).

Maybe I will find it second hand somewhere at a reasonable price.
