Expanding on this…I read some of Klemperer’s “Language of the Third Reich” years and years ago and it’s some fascinating stuff, but a fairly dry scholarly read if I remember correctly. On the other hand, his diaries published in 3 volumes under the title “I Will Bear Witness” are a gripping, insightful, and sadly relatable account of Germany’s descent into fascism while everyone walked around pretending everything was fine. Highly recommended.
I typically don’t care about things like hairstyle, makeup or clothes. But my wife has started giving herself a buzz cut and I simply hate it. I told her and she grew it out for a while, but she said longer hair was making her depressed and it needed to be a buzz cut. She said it just looks like her when she sees it. Part of...
It’s pretty obviously not the haircut itself that’s the problem…if she went back to having long hair, would you think, “Great! I suddenly no longer have any concerns about my wife’s gender identity!” There’s something more going on there, whether it’s real or just in your head. Go to therapy. Ideally as a couple, but individually if you have to, to get to the bottom of that.
Just watched an early screening last night. Loved it! It’s not an outright comedy but it had the audience laughing throughout by being just clever or humorous enough in between the copious action scenes.
Your enjoyment of the movie will be highly dependent on whether you find Ryan Gosling charismatic or not, because he’s in pretty much every frame.

Primarily listen on Spotify. I try to expand my horizons using their discovery playlists or artist/track radio for songs I already like, but they’ve got me heavily pigeonholed into late 90’s college rock and early/mid 00’s pop-punk…which is harsh but fair.
I occasionally check out place like Bandcamp or Tapefear for some rut busters. Most recently, Bandcamp turned me on to Irish hip hop artist Denise Chaila, which was a welcome surprise.
There’s a part in Dante’s Inferno where Dante sees a guy he used to know in Hell and he’s bummed out, but his guide Virgil says, “That guy is in Hell because God wants him here. Who the F are you to question the will of God? Maybe you should just stay in Hell yourself if you think you’re so smart…” and Dante has to backtrack and be like, “No, you’re right, fuck that guy.”
/I know Dante’s Inferno isn’t technically Catholic doctrine, it’s just fanfic that became so popular people can’t separate it from the canon.

Ryan’s Hope - Apocalypse in Increments. It’s from 2006 but I didn’t discover it until around 2012, by which point they’d already rebranded as The Reaganomics and adopted a more pop-punk sound that didn’t resonate with me.
Trump supporters already have the impression that all the potential jurors are out to get Trump, because their whole worldview necessitates a constant attitude of victimhood.

Loved Cryptonomicon. Have you read his Baroque Cycle? It deals with some similar themes and ancestors of the same families around the turning of the 18th century.
