Definitely smelling and seeing the smoke in now. 11am AQI was 2, forecast to worsen to 5 by Friday pm.

Hopefully the South African fire squad is able to protect homes up in central Quebec.

Yuck!

@johnefrancis we went for a quick walk at lunchtime but the air was pretty bad. Not the worst it’s been recently, but bad enough that we cut short our little amble.

Espionage act charges among those served up for the festive season?

Just want to go on record to say I'm against capital punishment.

We should protest that USA still has that on their books. I propose organizing something for maybe the 2025/26 calendar year. Check your calendars and get back to me. No rush.

@ottaross espionage? That sounds more Bond than Trump.

DeSantis ad uses fake AI images of Trump hugging and kissing Fauci, experts say

Trump/Fauci Images have strange hair, garbled text, and unnatural body parts.

@arstechnica you have to be a complete idiot to use fake AI generated images in your presidential campaign. But this is the US and the republicans we’re talking about, so I shouldn’t be surprised.

Don't have very high expectations for the Alberta election, but hope they reject the terrible UCP mess.

A big rural/urban divide, and the electorate have been heavily worked-over with US-style right wing lowest-common-denominator populist manipulation – they'd prob vote for Erdogan if he was printed in the ballot.

YurkshireLad,
@YurkshireLad@mastodon.social avatar

@ottaross long time tory Albertans will never change. It’s bred into their DNA. As is blindness to what’s happening around them.

YurkshireLad,
@YurkshireLad@mastodon.social avatar

@ottaross tell that to my mum. She still swears the Tories are the only party that is fiscally responsible. I should have sent her links to stories over the past few years but I didn’t want to start a fight.

American cheese is not a quality product (Kraft Singles can't even legally be described as "cheese"). But it's pretty hard to find a better substitute when it comes to topping a burger. Eater magazine's Jaya Saxena took a look at the history of the United States' second-most-popular cheese, and tried New School, which is said to be the first "quality" American cheese. Would/do you mix up your Kraft slice with fancy-dan varieties?

@CultureDesk Kraft slices will never top my burger. There are so many better options. I mean, singles aren’t even “real” cheese?

East councillor Wilson Lo talks about road sign fonts in this week's newsletter.

It's a fun read. But's it still an inadvertent smokescreen for the disasters of provincial and federal politics that severely impact our lives.
