Scientists argue that We Cannot Afford The Rich:

And it's not just all that excess carbon they pump into the atmosphere...

@MikeDunnAuthor I think I "yupped" so hard throughout this paper I hurt myself.

"Inequality also increases consumerism. Perceived links between wealth and self-worth drive people to buy goods associated with high social status and thus enhance how they appear to others — as US economist Thorstein Veblen set out more than a century ago in his book The Theory of the Leisure Class (1899). Studies show that people who live in more-unequal societies spend more on status goods."

So CTVNews published fake poll numbers from a “parental rights” poll pushed by anti-womens’-rights groups and run by a company that apparently doesn’t exist?

Wow, Alberta.

The reason why the Liberal party opposes making anything universal is to minimize the number of Canadians attached to the program, who will object to its degradation in the future.

This is what they are doing with the dental program, and what they will use to prevent pharmacare from going through.

If the dental program was universal, any attempt to remove it would be opposed by almost every Canadian. The current program can be degraded with objections only from the poor.

Private delivery of some services may make sense for some activities. But without transparency and clear limits, let alone a broad market of competition, we end up paying more. If the door is opened to satisfy the "need" for competition there is no turning back. Already, understaffed comparable services within hospitals and clinics are struggling to serve as healthcare workers move to better supported private settings.

@johnefrancis @chrisbegley @geekingirl @dairpo I couldn't agree more. The Ford govt was on my mind when responding given recent reporting about how much better funded the private services are over the public.

With respect to nursing, my spouse works as an emergency nurse and it is demoralizing to work alongside someone doing the same job at 3 to 4 times your wage not to mention a per diem, lodging and travel covered. That is where nurses are going. To agencies. Less work for more $.

@innervisioner @nixCraft Yeah, really not a choice for those of us who work on music/audio on the go. As an AV technician a 3.5mm is essential for testing too.

@CBCNews Mismatched units are a problem in this case. It hides a significant difference that helps to establish a pattern of behaviour of the Ford government.

"Last year, the province took 2,995 hectares of land out of the Greenbelt to build 50,000 homes and replaced it with about 3,000 acres elsewhere."

2,995 hectares is 7,400 acres. The government took more away from the than it returned.
