I got tired of ballpoint pens dying on me so I switched to a instead, and it was the most anti-user-friendly experience ever…

I don’t need to know all the artistic minutiae of each part; please just put a “this side down” arrow on the cartridge so I don’t have to pull the feed out to see how big the puncturing end is in order to determine which end of the cartridge can/should be punctured 🙃

I “read” my first novel, and I honestly didn’t like it too much 🥲

: The main character (a “they/them” person, so the audiobook listening experience was weird) was very melodramatic in a first-world-problem “my life (and society) is literally perfect; why am I not happy?? what’s wrong with me??” way throughout the book, and it was quite annoying 🙃 And next time, I’ll choose a book without religious themes (the “gods!!” exclamation gets irritating after the 100th time).

For reference, I keep my bin in the pantry and throw my kitchen scraps inside as they are produced, which is great because it prevents fruit flies/foul odor in the garbage bag.

Today is November 4th. On this day three years ago, war was declared in Ethiopia's Tigray region. It ended up being among the bloodiest civil wars of our era, and killed hundreds of thousands by the time it ended on Nov 3rd 2022. We are still investigating atrocities and alleged atrocities until this day.

The conflict completely changed me as a person forever, in so many ways.

I spent most of my Saturday playing with my new DIY Framework 13 @frameworkcomputer and it was super fun & amazing! 💖 So far, I:

  • Installed #Fedora 38 and discovered it uses DNF (not APT)
  • Got #VirtualBox then immediately uninstalled it in favor of QEMU/KVM
  • Migrated from 1Password to #Bitwarden
  • Got Slack then immediately uninstalled it since it conflicted with Bitwarden installation

Plus I went down a few rabbit holes here and there, because that’s how you learn #Linux! 😂

  1. Left: The "Current Features" was a bunch of gibberish and I couldn't tell if this would solve my "I can't copy and paste/drag and drop files between my host machine and the VM" problem. Right: "You need spice-vdagent. Here is why and how."

  2. Left: This is a lot. I just need to watch a YouTube tutorial. Right: "Just change to the Flatpak version of Firefox."

  2. But then my computer started flickering/freezing (always while I'm using Flathub Firefox, but honestly I'm rarely using anything else) so I googled how to pull logs (journalctl, apparently?) and posted in the forums.

  3. Clamshell mode in = use GNOME Tweaks.

My 1 month review: it's still amazing! 💖

(Honestly, the worst thing about it is the touchpad. You'll never be able to comfortably click-and-drag, so you'd better get comfortable with double-tap-and-drag or buy a mouse!)

And the people in the community forum are nice and helpful, and when my keyboard completely failed earlier this week, I was able to quickly look up the solution (take out all the expansion cards and put them back in; don't ask me why 😂) and fix it myself!

Upgraded my with a fresh install of 39! 🎉

I also successfully created/restored a backup with my new 2TB SSD, so I’ll spend this month working on a more advanced/automated setup with it (e.g. Timeshift).

EDIT: Officially gave up on 😂 Converting .vmdk to .qcow2 with qemu-img on Fedora 38 didn't quite work, and I eventually hit the "unable to install all modules" error with the GCC/kernel headers issue on Fedora 39. https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/87859

Boxes is super cute so far! 🐻

Currently Host 2 is down due to an hardware problem that is already being worked on.

This will affect about one third of the servers hosted in Masto.host. Really sorry about that.

We dug out more potatoes from the garden yesterday 🥔
Anyone wanna suggest what we should do with them?
So far we've used the potatoes for making twice baked potato, clam chowder, mashed potato, fries 🍟, and pierogies 🥔🥟.
I also tried making gamja jorim (Korean sweet potato banchan/side dish) but it didn't turn out good 😢 Maybe I should find a different recipe.

Might try making what my in-laws call "kalipok" 😋 (Malaysian curry puffs).

One of my favourite breakfasts this summer has been caramelized cream eggs with chives and Calabrian chili crunch.

It’s an incredibly •easy• breakfast — you can season the cream with anything you like. Takes two minutes longer than fried eggs and makes you feel sooo fancy.

I highly recommend the stovetop cream egg process.
