My big goal was (is!) to learn Linux on an environmentally friendly machine, so my choices were to buy 1) refurbished, or 2) brand-new = Framework (because it seems more flexible than System76).
The huge advantage that I have is that my personal computer can have hardware failures for weeks and Iāll be okay because I have my work computer. So without this, it might be risky.
Iāve never had my ears pierced, I donāt do my nails, and I wear makeup maybe 3 times/year, so I KNOW Iām an anomalyā¦ but whenever I see the sheer QUANTITY of earrings and necklaces and jewelry and lipsticks and nail polish and blah blah blah being sold EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME, I canāt help but think about how it would be so much better for everyone and the planet (in the #climate crisis context) if all of these things ceased to exist. (Iām not advocating for this or anything! Just overwhelmed.)
I donāt know; do other women think about this? How even the āupcycled ocean plasticā earrings are still just earrings, so they will all end up in the landfill (or the ocean again) eventually? Where did the diamond on your engagement ring come from, and how much oil did we burn to get it there?
I donāt say these things to people I know because I donāt want to ruin their day. And Iām not criticizing them! But still, stuck inside my head, I feel very overwhelmed.
Is there a way to get @ivory to manually fetch or refresh accounts/profiles/toots of people on other servers?
I know I can open their profile in the in-app browser, but itās such a hassle to have to log in and MFA every single time I want to follow/boost anything, and for some reason a lot of profiles never gets refreshed so I never see their updated profile/content in #Ivory. #Mastodon decentralized infrastructure problemsā¦ š„²
My current #Ivory subscription ends on June 3 so I want to try something newā¦ If anyone has any recommendations for #Mastodon#Fediverse#iOS apps that donāt have this problem (as much), please send them my way! š

@seanbala Yesss John Oliver is great! š The whole system that normalizes a 30-YEAR (nearly my entire life up to this point!) mortgage seems absurd to me, and judging by the numbers, perhaps to many of my peers as well.
(I know it's supposed to be interpreted as "the bank will allow me to take my time to pay them" instead of "signing up to be in debt for 30 years", but still...)
