I remember talking with @fanf in the pub about how awesome Ansible was. I am now using it again. I would like to apologise for my previous enthusiasm. Fortunately, I have plenty of time to.
#ukpol#transphobia Why does anyone still think the Guardian is a progressive newspaper? Their latest fun is an “exposé” of being able to buy HRT on the internet.
In 1988, Echelon came out for DOS – it looked like the future!
I thought, “Wow! This is in actual 3D!”
And from my kid perspective living in the 80s, it was true. It had wireframe graphics and ultra-smooth scrolling. When I piloted the ship, it felt like I was completely in control.
We may snicker now at the EGA graphics but you got to understand that an NES couldn’t do this. Echelon really showed off what PCs at the time were capable of doing. It was revelatory.
Returning to it now, it’s amazing how far we’ve come in the past 36 years. However, playing this game is still fun – if only to stare at those wireframes!
@DrALJONES@DigitalTaoist@ZillaMon It would be interesting to see how this correlates with what media respondents have consumed. I suspect that the full consequences of IDF action are not well represented in mainstream Israeli media and (possibly optimistically) imagine it would be different if they were seeing pictures of emaciated children.
I’ve just read “we bite each oþer” on here and I now can’t stop wondering if it should be “oðer”. Old English had “ōþer” but I think the modern English pronunciation is voiced ð
I badly needed a goat break after the super depressing monthly light pollution committee meeting (gosh I hate starlink so very very very much)... and yesterday I found a basket I had started and will never finish (the design was all wrong and it dried out too much).
Any of you familiar with the "if you give a mouse a cookie" series of books? Today I got to try: "If you give a goat a basket"
(The baskets are just made of willows I picked from my farm - goats LOVE willows)
In today's episode of 'Pamela Stephenson Connolly gives appalling relationship advice', a controlling 18-year-old boy is told he should talk to his girlfriend about his true feelings. Rather than, you know, just breaking up because you're 18 and if you don't fancy her then you should probably leave her the fuck alone.
@girlonthenet Totally agree. Though a challenge arises when someone feels bad about themselves and wants to change. Expressing that they’re gorgeous now and will be gorgeous whatever (because they’re them) while also supporting them and respecting how they feel about their body.
2009: Harriet Harman is squeamish about trans women and so lets the Equality Act get drafted in a sloppy and ambiguous way.
2010: The coalition government passes it and can’t be arsed to read the damned thing, despite trans people (and I was one of them) waving frantically at MPs and senior civil servants.
A decade of dominoes fall…
2025: “I know he was goosestepping past the water cooler yelling ‘Heil Hitler’, but the courts have decided that the Equality Act means we can’t fire him.”
Officials in Brussels have reportedly drawn up a secret plan to sabotage Hungary’s economy if Viktor Orbán decides this week to again block a €50bn support package for Ukraine....
Oh no, it's the second time in a couple months a hacker took over all my devices and caught me masturbating to "highly controversial porn videos"! Thankfully it's only going to cost me US $1320 in cryptocurrency to an anonymous wallet to make the worry go away. 😌
A dishwasher tip specifically for those of you in North America:
Your dishwasher expects to be filled with hot water. If it takes more than 15 seconds for the water at your kitchen tap to get hot, your dishwasher may be washing with cold water for much of its cycle.
If your dishwasher seems kinda meh, try running the kitchen tap until it's proper hot and steamy before you start a wash cycle. It may make a huge difference.
