I almost died out there yesterday because somebody needed chicken fingers RIGHT THE HELL NOW.

This big pickup crossed two travel lanes from the left then stopped sideways in front of me when they couldn't get into the right turn lane bc other cars were in it.

Glad my habits of careful driving and paying attention on the road paid off.

I drive with the assumption that everyone else is likely to do spectacularly stupid things, and, well, someone did.

It could have been really bad. ☹️

I am pro public transportation in the form of #trains, and I am pro improving business and shipping via trains.

The cost-cutting measures that are happening in freight train corporations right now are horrifying. I had a neighbor who worked for BNSF and wow, was that a stressful job. episode 20 season 10 of #LastWeekTonight covers this.

My dream is to be able to get to and from Denver on the train. Right now I’d have to drive to Omaha from here, or drive up from Trinidad there. Not ideal.

Remember: food in a fully-packed freezer has about 24-48 hours before it enters the danger zone. Fridge food is much less (4-6 hours). I’ve put bags of ice in the fridge directly (on towels) and measured temps after an outage, but always better safe than sorry.

I think I loved Mothra as a kid because she was so colorful and her eyes are sparkly! I still love her for those qualities. And she also looks fuzzy and fun to cuddle.

Stop saying and spreading the lie that “nobody wants to #work anymore.”

Start calling it out for what it is: end stage #capitalism.

Workers are run roughshod over by cost-cutting measures that allow CEOs to have yachts and fly private planes, while they sit or stand and bust their bodies and minds at jobs for 8+ hours a day, all the while worrying if they’re going to be able to keep the lights on and their families fed.

It’s no wonder Gen Z sees right through this and won’t acquiesce.

Why, yes. I did download the #StarTrek #SNW #StrangeNewWorlds “Subspace Rhapsody” soundtrack, and yes, I’ve listened to it many, many times today. In the car, on headphones, and on home speakers.

Shout out to the #composers for their orchestral and arrangement brilliance. To the cast as well! The vocal/orchestral theme song gives me chills every time I play it.

My favorite? “I’m the X”. Ethan Peck — WOW! Brilliant and heartbreaking at the same time. Second fave: can Romijn sing or what?!

A question for my fellow #aphantasics re #audiobooks: I find it difficult to listen while doing any other task. One exception is long, boring stretches of highway driving.

I just realized today that this might be due in part to my #aphantasia — I really have to concentrate hard when I’m listening to a book. Understanding what is going on means evoking feelings and words rather than images.

Being #ActuallyAutistic with auditory processing issues may play a role as well.

The beans were done (overnight in this crock pot) so, blearily I finished the rest of the chopping and cooking early this ayem for the vegan sweet potato chili.

Now, it cooks and absorbs the flavors of the spices/onion/garlic "roux" (no actual flour).

Fingers crossed that it tastes good and it's not too spicy for my BFF.

When it comes to veg/vegan chili, recipes are just suggestions. I could tell you what's in it, but I can't tell you how much -- or why!

I honestly cannot explain this meme. It was created by an author I know as a joke that he played on us, his readers. It is a fake album cover by an artist named Klaus Hugen called Jesus is my spaceship, let's ride him through the stars. It features a purple and blue star-studded background and a bearded white man attempting to sit seductively in lederhosen and chonky socks and shoes. At least I think it's lederhosen. If you are a fan of the Space Team series by Barry Hutchison, you may have seen this before.

For peeps in the US. I had a link up for a company in Canada, but they don't ship to the states.

I am ordering today to give it a try. I do have a few work days where I have to wear a mask for extended periods, so staying hydrated has been a challenge (my job is physical).

I have seen posts from other Mastodonians saying they have used these on plane flights and avoided catching any and all bugs. Cool!

What is the term for that type of inertia where you can't get anything else done in a given day because you have one time-specific thing on your calendar so you end up waiting until you do that one thing?

I know there are words for it. I just can't remember them.
