Hey peeps (my and other cousins can chime in as well):

What is the term for that type of inertia where you can't get anything else done in a given day because you have one time-specific thing on your calendar so you end up waiting until you do that one thing?

I know there are words for it. I just can't remember them.

Thanks for any help!

"Every time you wear a mask or plug in an air purifier, you're doing counter memory. You're reminding people that masks and air purifiers don't symbolize danger or loss of freedom. They symbolize health and protection. They kept us safe. They keep us safe now."

For peeps in the US. I had a link up for a company in Canada, but they don't ship to the states.

I am ordering today to give it a try. I do have a few work days where I have to wear a mask for extended periods, so staying hydrated has been a challenge (my job is physical).

I have seen posts from other Mastodonians saying they have used these on plane flights and avoided catching any and all bugs. Cool!

I really enjoyed the soft light and the coolness during the . It was amazing to me that 12% of the sun showing was still a significant amount of light. I could live with a Sun that cool! I'm not sure the Earth could, though.

Alert to followers: I have requested an account on another server that blocks Threads. I should know if I get approved within a couple of days.

I have other Mastodon accounts but this has been my most active one, so I will be migrating it if I get approved.

It'll be work following everyone back, but I'm willing to suffer that pain to prevent Zuck from ever scraping even a tiny amount of my data!

I almost died out there yesterday because somebody needed chicken fingers RIGHT THE HELL NOW.

This big pickup crossed two travel lanes from the left then stopped sideways in front of me when they couldn't get into the right turn lane bc other cars were in it.

Glad my habits of careful driving and paying attention on the road paid off.

I drive with the assumption that everyone else is likely to do spectacularly stupid things, and, well, someone did.

It could have been really bad. ☹️

This morning after another fantastic event, I remain gobsmacked by the original film.

I do not know what headspace I was in when I watched it before, but this time, it hit home HARD.

It is a masterpiece.

After seeing Oppenheimer a few times last year plus reading the book, I've got much more historical context for why this film was made and what it meant -- and also the cultural/film norms that it broke.

Astounding in that context. Excellent food for thought.

Absolutely chilling, serious, and such a classic. Nothing like the original.

Thanks, for another great night.

Always needs to be spread more widely.

Did you see: A tent in the woods? Someone shoplifting? a person sleeping in their car?

No! You fucking didn't! People are struggling. Don't make it worse.

So I've been re-watching Discovery bc the new season starts April 4th.

I have the cheap version of Paramount+, so I see ads all the time.

So many drug ads, with so many doctors' offices, and no masks. So many ads with people just doing normal stuff, clearly not worrying about Covid. All the Covid ads are for Paxlovid. One or two are for the updated vaccine.

Basically all of them say you're gonna get sick, citizen from whom we want money, so deal with it.

This is so dystopian.

I know this took the author a lot of energy and time to write this. She's half my age -- and disabled now with long COVID. ☹️

The beans were done (overnight in this crock pot) so, blearily I finished the rest of the chopping and cooking early this ayem for the vegan sweet potato chili.

Now, it cooks and absorbs the flavors of the spices/onion/garlic "roux" (no actual flour).

Fingers crossed that it tastes good and it's not too spicy for my BFF.

When it comes to veg/vegan chili, recipes are just suggestions. I could tell you what's in it, but I can't tell you how much -- or why!

Here's a rookie mistake I made with my dog after not having one for over 20 years:

When I was first training Miles, I made my voices different for correction and praise. My correction voice is close to my normal voice, but sterner. My praise voice is a ridiculous baby voice with lots of lilting and happy sounds -- which is fake and exhausting.

I figured that by age 2 I would be able to forgo the baby voice.

I COULD NOT BE MORE WRONG. I'm stuck with the baby voice now. 🤦🏽

Even though I've been a bit of a nerd for a few years now, I wish I knew more about the forces behind it.

This morning, looking at the radar for the whole planet, it's raining or snowing in many, many places.

But I've rarely seen rain move like this on the land mass I live on, moving up from the southeast to the northwest.

It's disconcerting. We're getting water moving up from Florida right now. Eww!

Laws. We are so f*cked.

"Part of the puzzle is that it is no longer possible to be confident about who has and who has not contracted COVID, with evidence suggesting it has spread to an overwhelming majority of the population. That makes it difficult to know what conditions can be firmly tied to COVID inflammation and which would have emerged regardless, Bennett says."

-7°F with a windchill of -25°F right now, coming up on 10am CST. Our high today will be -1°F at 3 PM.

Chickens are safe and warm and LOUD in the basement.

We have not lost power, at least. I guess the squirrel spit must be frozen to the tinfoil.

I'm exhausted. The entirety of this cold snap is annoying and debilitating, but it really could be much worse.

It is a weight off my shoulders to have the dang birds indoors, even if cleanup later in the week is going to suck.

This poor buddy has been sneezing all day.

I put a heating pad in a pillowcase to make him a bed on my bed and fed him some extra chicken. ☹️

I hope we aren't all getting sick! 😷
