A quick poll about my personal website: My favorite (and totally silly) feature is the “Change That Font!” toggle at the bottom where the visitor can change the font to four of my favorite fonts.

I want to add or change to some new favorites.

Should I just add the new fonts and have more choices or should I keep it limited?

Is it just me or does LinkedIn's feed algo completely ignore what it already showed me? I'm seeing the same stuff over and over again. Sometimes weeks later. Maybe it's built on the idea that I'm already 42 and probably no longer able to remember what I saw last week.

Took a big risk once: we gave our big v2.0 away for free to all Halide v1 users, hoping it’d make our users happy.

We also gave users 2 more years of updates on top of that —and made sure Halide aways kept working, with an optional paid upgrade for new features.

In return, we get these reviews. This stuff is so disheartening.

You gave them a free update, and they chose instead to go and pay money for a separate app?

Unless you have reason to think that this person fits your profile of an ideal customer, I wouldn’t let it get to you. They clearly have an agenda against app subscriptions, and care more about making a protest statement than examining the reality of this particular situation.

I don't think that Mastodon can win the hype contest and in many ways it's a mistake that it was automatically thrown into this contest with Bluesky.

I'm convinced that it can win the long-term contest and that's more relevant.

It might still not be obvious for enough people why the Fediverse is so fundamentally different. But as an independent, long-term social layer it plays a role that none of the others play.

After staring at systems design diagrams all week, I decided to treat myself to some faux-watercolor rendering experiments. Wet-on-wet shadows!

Game world, stylized to look like it’s been drawn with ink and watercolors. Tiny player character standing under a tall cliff in an arctic biome. More cliff-laden terrain and a frosty sea in the distance. The character’s portrait looks male, with short hair, looking excited.

I normally use shadows with hard borders, but I also accidentally found a way to do these kind of blurry-grainy ones. Probably won’t keep them, but they’re intriguing.

Same as previous image, but at nighttime. Deep blues, desaturated shadows.
