My account tells me it's only six weeks since I started using Pixelfed seriously. In that time I have come to love it.

The reach is unbelievable, helped by the fact that I can share it to my followers here. The possibility to share makes it an entirely different beast than Instagram. More like Tumblr, but centred on original photography.

There is so much good stuff on display. And as opposed to Ig, hashtags work the way they're supposed to.

I tried Threads. I hated it. Not because of the privacy issues, though they are bad enough. And there was a lot of good photography.

But my months on Pixelfed has thought me, even more than Mastodon has, how much I hate algorithms.

Show me what the people I follow post. In the order it was posted. That's it. That's all I want.

The importance of France to reggae in Europe is hard to overestimate. Winston McAnuff is one of those artists who never really was popular outside Jamaica, until the French fell in love with him in the early 2000s.

The result is, among other things, the 2006 album Paris Rockin'. A fascinating mix of reggae and that strange beast which is French rock. And the discovery that reggae with accordion actually is a good idea.
