Did she get the microphone back in one piece? It was probably worth a lot of money, maybe up to $5000 or even more. Good mics are very expensive.

Superconductor Breakthrough Replicated, Twice, in Preliminary Testing
By Francisco Pires
A tentative but less nebulous step toward superconductor-fueled electronics.
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/superconductor-breakthrough-replicated-twice
LK-99, as it's been named, is a new compound that researchers believe will enable the fabrication of room-temperature, ambient-pressure superconductors. Initially published by a Korean team last Friday,
Superconductors, a wild category of compounds that can conduct electricity without any losses,Imagine if your 16-core mainstream CPU (which likely requires a competent watercooling solution to avoid incinerating itself) operated without power losses — no current leakage, no electricity waste in the form of heat. Superconductors mean almost perfectly efficient computing.
Scale that to the world's supercomputers, trillions of transistors based on superconducting materials work in tandem across GPU and CPU tiles to accelerate things like Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads.

Men are becoming a foe for biodiversity. We are disrupting their environment and barely care about it.

It is essential to change our approach to the way we grow food.

We should feed the soil first. By doing this we feed the biodiversity of the soil and in exchange, they provide us with the nutrients to grow our food.

Doing compost and always covering the soil will achieve a reliant soil.

Be kind to the soil.

avantgeared,

@compost
I was thinking about ways to provide plant available nutrients by recycling raw materials. Consider the need to conserve Earth's phosphate reserves and reduce waste. Phosphoric acid is in Coke. Phosphorous (the P in NPK) is in a lot of food and it stays there through sewage treatment. If we save all our pee, year round and then apply it in rotation to gardens and landscapes we will have recycled a lot of phosphorous. This way there woould be less need to buy fertilizer with phosphorous as a component which would come from natural rock phosphate or from phosphoric acid which would be in the form of superphosphate. If we compost all body waste materials then we broaden recycling of nutrients required by plants. Composting toilets, either commercial ones of owner-builder ones made from approved designs or just buckets for liquid waste is a perfect solution to recycle phosphorous, a non renewable resource.

avantgeared,

@compost
I don't dilute it ever. I put it outside in a 5 gal bucket and add kitchen waste to it. When it is full I pout it around a huge persimmon tree to fertilize it and the weeds and grasses around it are becoming a primeval weedforest. Just beautiful. Cheap way to fertilize the lawn and landscape. For the vegetable garden I pout it on new beds that have not yet been dug up. It fertilizes weeds which I cut and mulch with or dig under. I don;t put it near gardens with crops but I can see how that might work if done carefully and with dilution.

Anarcho-Communists, Nestor Makhno and Ukraine
Nestor Makhno: Anarchist, Revolutionary, Legendary Ukrainian
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IKd8mn7kQI

558 views Jul 19, 2023
The aftermath of the Russian Revolution was a chaotic and bloody time – from 1917 until 1922, civil war consumed the former Russian Empire, as competing factions vied for power. One of the lesser known participants was a movement of Anarcho-communists who came to exert control over vast areas of southern Ukraine, led by a man named Nestor Makhno. This Ukrainian revolutionary, born into a family of peasants, earned himself a legendary reputation - fighting against the Central Powers, the Bolsheviks and the White Army in a bid to create an anarchist society in Southern Ukraine. Interestingly Makhno is also credited with inventing the Tachanka, the horse drawn gun carriage used extensively on the plains of the Eurasian steppe.

avantgeared,

Conversation with a friend about Makhno:
Him: "They were fighting over the same territory the Russians & Ukrainians are fighting over now. And Makhno's Blacks had to fight the Reds on one hand and the Whites on the other. Makhno managed to survive. "
Me: "Very interesting. I think that anarchism for them then, no government, was the closest thing they could get to a democracy. There were no existing governments in neighboring countries they could safely align with to gain any kind of autonomy or sovereignty, i.e. all were enemies.
So anarchism was it and they could then roll their own governing system according to their needs. That is too cool for words but one hell of a lot of work if they wanted to be able to have relations with other countries and any kind of worthwhile infrastructure. Does this make sense?

Just got an email saying Kitten’s been rejected for funding by Sovereign Tech Fund. No reason given.

I don’t even know why I try anymore, really.

We’ve never received a single penny of public funding for our work even though everything we make is free and open source and all our work is for the common good.

We do have a group of folks who support us via patronage – thank you all so much. It doesn’t pay the rent but it means a lot.

Yours is just the kind of project I have been interested in since 1990, an online system of communications between like minded people and special interest groups and of course the public at large.

I and a local group were interested in putting online a public kiosk, a system that would provide information about cities and counties that citizens needed to know about, local infrastructure, municipal and county. This was before the Internet was available to the public. We hope that some corporation that did have Internet connectivity would share rack space for our server, running software our programmer volunteers would create. We never got any funding or service donations. Then the Internet came along with email, gopher, http, ftp and computers with GUI's.

These movements were and are changing the world for the better.

The fediverse needs to be built to be their forever home: a place to join together across borders to make the world better for everyone, with equal opportunities for all.

I still, despite everything, after all this time, believe this is the promise of the internet.

Are you finding Mastodon to be less vibrant/active?

I’m worried that we are not getting as much engagement on our Ukraine war reporting as we used to.

We’re trying to decide which social media platforms to continue posting on, given how much effort it takes to replicate across all of them.

If you want to send a signal to us that we should keep posting here, will you sign up for our newsletter? http://Counteroffensive.substack.com

I’m only asking Mastodon users today so we can gauge impact.

I will subscribe if I can read your news about Ukraine at your substack site and/or here at Mastodon.
Mastodon is not very vibrant or active but gets interesting in a random kind of way, you never know what you will find but convcersations are unpredictable and rare. I read it like I read Time magazine. At least it isn't reddit, facebook or twitter so its already miles ahead. Why don;t you try to build a readership here at Mastodon and encourage conversations about the articles? I can not do any email because it loads up my Google Gmail space limit and I do not want to pay them money. So, no substack email but Mastodon and/or your substack site for reading online is OK.

Why all the anti capitalism, pro commie, cutesy anarchism buzzwords when you know none of that helps people survive and carry on normal lives. Why drive well-intentioned people to such ideological extremes. Look at what the Chinese and Russians have done to good people in the name of socialism and communism with the ccp forcing such things as "Party as God and Xi Jinping his messenger" on all Chinese. Don;t forget what they have done to the Tibetans and the Uighurs. Replace you anti capitalism, anarchism and communism with PERMACULTURE. Take a look at that.

avantgeared,

Have a debate between "anarcho-communism" and Permaculture. You are years too late pushing anarcho communism. Decades ago when the permaculture movement was beginning to evolve it would have been interesting to consider. Communism is communism.
Anyway, I am a product of the freewheeling, freethinking Sixtiesand you have got my interest about your politics. All I can do is go with what I think anarcho communism is. There are connections to Permaculture. For me anarchism or communism is not the system I would want a government to be run by. I like the idea of elements of socialist system to be integrated into Permaculture design and the resulting systems it produces. I have lots of ideas about this. I will take a closer look at your resources. Meanwhile why don;t you do some research on Permaculture. For an anarcho communist to exclude Permaculture would render their ideas and proposals null and void. Stay tuned.

Do you support Ukraine and Ukrainians and providing them with weapons to drive Russian out of all Ukrainian territory. Do you believe that the Russians carried out an illegal, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine during which they caused considerable destruction, loss of life and committed atrocities. They have stated that they want to eliminate all Ukrainians.
2)
Have you ever heard of Nestor Makhno? He was an anarchist who lived in Ukraine and Russia and defended the people there from Stalin's Red Army, particularly the peasants and kulak farmers, whom Stalin hated. Which side were the Bolsheviks on? 🙂 Makhno was a true hero.

https://www.tibetanreview.net/chinese-police-vandalize-venue-canceling-yet-another-major-tibetan-buddhist-teaching-event/
(TibetanReview.net, Jul21’23) – Chinese authorities have on Jul 19 used violence to disrupt yet another major Buddhist teaching event in eastern Tibet for which preparations had been completed, with devotees from far and wide already having gathered, waiting for the teaching lama’s arrival.

Tearing down tents and destroying a colorful sand mandala art for the planned Kalachakra teachings, the authorities broke up the gathering at Athi Monastery in Mangra (Chinese: Guinan) county of Qinghai Province, saying the event had been cancelled, reported the Tibetan Service of rfa.org Jul 20.

The much-sought teaching among Tibetan Buddhists was to be given by the monastery’s abbot, Lama Kalsang Tashi Gyatso.

Permaculture is not just a gardening system. Learn what it actually is. Volumes online to browse through. It adds considerably to any political agenda. Since it is about how prople feed, take care of themselves and survive it is important that it be included in any political platform. I would like to see a presedential cabinet with a position filled by a permaculture expert just as you have farmers and environmentalists on the board of the USDA organic certification board. Important to do this because the government already represents the interests of a broad range of communities, all vital to the functioning of a healthy nation.
