Last year I had Docker briefly running on my Win10 machine, just long enough to verify it was working, then today I ran it and it said it can't run because of my BIOS settings. Is this surprising? Does this imply I changed my BIOS, possibly by accident, sometime in the last nine months? If I changed out my boot disk, might that have reset some BIOS settings?

az,
@az@betagravity.com avatar

@mcc They have different names depending on if Intel or AMD but there should be a couple virtualization options in the bios that you'll want to enable. I've seen them default off, maybe you reset the bios to default somewhere along the way?

Side note docker pushes you to use wsl2 but the disk speed with windows volumes is horrible, I've had good luck with the hyper-v option

i've heard it argued that Fahrenheit is the more human temperature scale, and weather is used as the example, with 70°F as a comfy air temperature and 100°C being very hot.

i'd like to argue that Celsius is the more human one because it's perfect for cooking. 100°C to boil soup. 70°C is nice and hot for eating. 50°C and below is getting a little lukewarm. under 10°C to keep in the fridge. under 0°C to freeze it.

@thor I like that the F units are smaller, but I'll admit I'm biased

Alright so you know how dmv.community is a Mastodon instance right? Well until recently I was convinced that the "dmv" stood for the Department of Motor Vehicles, and that all the users were just people who work there or, presumably, who really enjoyed its services .______.

Please feel free to mock me as desired

    Phoenix reaches 110 degrees for a record-setting 19th day in a row

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if it's =>110F/43.3C for the rest of the month

"Temperatures have averaged above 101 degrees in Phoenix over the past 17 days. That is significantly hotter than another record-setting heat wave, when the city surpassed 110 degrees on 18 consecutive days in 1974. During that stretch, temperatures averaged 96.5 degrees."

Did you know that the sad scene in is based on a real story?

In 1923, in Akita prefecture, , an Akita Inu puppy was born & adopted by a professor. He named him Hachiko.

Daily, Hachiko waited for his friend at the train station in . But 16 months later, the prof died.

Hachiko started to go to the station to wait for his friend to return.

People noticed & started to leave food, donations were raised...

...& upon his death, a statue was raised for his
    .

This is a black and white photo of Hachiko, the Akita dog. The fluffy large puppy sits on its hindlegs. His left ear is slanted downwards a bit. He is looking directly into the camera. The background is a nondescript backyard.
