Who's got good resources on using ChatGPT for my mate who wants to learn how to use it for her (non-tech) professional life. Eg, not breathless grifting stuff, doom predictions or in-depth "how it works" stuff, just how to write good prompts etc?

"Leave the EU to end immigration!" they said. Immigration is up, Uk economy is teetering to recession and Brits lost freedom of movement. Now it's "Leave the ECHR to end immigration", so: tear up the Good Friday Agreement & human rights.

Gammons: you're useful idiots, but they hate you – and one day they'll come for you, too. You're being played. Again.

It was the least I could do for him.

Progressively Enhanced HTML Accordion by @aardrian who notes "I am of the opinion that accordions mostly slow users down. They require extra interaction just to get to additional content, often because some product owner thought the page was “too cluttered” after they jammed all their words into it (or assume users are incapable of scanning). Essentially accordions are lazy carousels for organizations that lack brevity" https://adrianroselli.com/2023/08/progressively-enhanced-html-accordion.html

One reason I decided to accept the job offer from Barnardos is the aspiration for accessibility and performance for the new stuff we'll be building, written by my guvnor @derekjohnson https://platforms.barnardos.org.uk/standards/web-performance/

As part of the new job I shall be using 11ty. So here's a photo of the extremely glamorous @zachleat and me in Amsterdam earlier this year. (I use the adverb "extremely" as I doubtless be asking for his help 9 times a day)

We’re now finding out the damaging results of the mandated return to the office–and it’s worse than we thought https://fortune.com/2023/08/01/research-damaging-results-mandated-return-to-office-worse-than-we-thought-rto-remote-work-careers-leadership-gleb-tsipursky/ ('Far worse'? This comes as no surprise to me.)

Who do I know who uses Contentful? I'll be working on a project that's using it and need to understand what it is, and how to cajole good markup out of it. The docs are all a tour around the interface.

I actually feel nostalgic for the old Tories - of Ken Clarke, Hesteltine, Whitelaw: people I disagreed with, but who seemed to me to actually care about the UK and the world. Not the bunch of grubby shitbags importing science denial, Xian nationalism, car worship, Putin-felching fact-denying MAGA shit from the descendants of the mad god-botherers we forced out to the USA. Hateful, cruel, selfish bastards who will excuse anyone who enriches/ advances them.

Strongly recommended: @jwz's “Recent movies and TV”: https://www.jwz.org/blog/2023/07/recent-movies-and-tv-23/

He does one of these every few months and they're useful.

@stshank @timbray @jwz I disagree. I loved the books' world but found their characters and dialogue risible. Show is much better, keeps the good things from books, is dramatised by pro writers. Mrs L hadn't read books, found the show gripping and unconfusing.
