One day with the M4 iPad Pro. Great upgrade all around, lighter weight is subtle but noticeable from previous M1. But

The new Magic Keyboard feels really good. Great build quality, typing feels quite nice, the new function row was long overdue, and the trackpad is nifty. It too feels lighter, so the overall package feels great.

Ok weird situation: got an iOS system alert on my devices yesterday that ‘a new iPad has been added to your Apple ID and has access to iMessage.’ But I haven’t added a new device.

Checked my account, there is no new iPad I don’t recognize there. But I did order a new M4 Pro. Could Apple have somehow preemptively added it to my account?

UPDATE: Apprently this is a bug going around triggered by updating a device with iOS 17.5, which I did do.

By the way: This post ^^^ is one of the reasons I am a supporter of being able to edit social media posts as long as there is a paper trail of previous iterations.

In other places, this post could've kept going around for hours and people would've kept replying with all kinds of ideas when we solved it ~ 15 minutes after I posted.

You can click the little timestamp thingy and see the previous iterations (FB figured this out a decade+ ago). It's useful. It's important.

anecdote: Hanging at one of my favorite cafes, The Drawing Room in the Chicago Athletic Association. It’s a hotel on Michigan Ave so you often see all walks here.

Four devices at the big work table: three iPads, one Windows laptop.

One woman is rolling with an Apple Pencil and writing on paper note cards. Another woman and I both rocking Magic Keyboards, she’s studying and taking notes.

I should point out that no one can get any work done on iPads. 🙃
