The company that

  • Ran a secret, illegal, manipulative psychological experiment on hundreds of thousands of users
  • Has documented proof of working to put competitors out of business
  • Literally shopped our data around to other companies, including direct messages
  • Conspired to manipulate a presidential election
  • Has been proven to support or at least turn a blind eye to genocide

But ooh hey shiny new app let’s sign up

I don’t understand people. I just fucking don’t.

He bought #Twitter and has steadily gutted it. The goal is to destroy it because it gave regular people power to organize for change.

Now he’s attacking #Wikipedia because it contains facts and education, which are antithetical to the goals of him and his type.

He might be an idiot in a lot of ways. But he is absolutely doing this with purpose. I worry it’s dangerous to view his actions through any other lens.

When was the last time a $44 billion acquisition lost over two thirds of its value in just over a year, and investors didn’t call for multiple heads to roll? When. WHEN

They wanted to destroy it. Him and all of his authoritarian investors. This was deliberate. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2024/jan/02/x-twitter-stock-falls-elon-musk?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

@OddDev Elon Musk bought Twitter with the help of multiple investors ranging from authoritarian countries (Saudi Arabia, China) to hedge funds.

Twitter, despite its many faults, had become a powerful too for people to organize and fight back against many forms of oppression (Look up the 'Arab Spring' and many other protests)

Most billionaires like Musk, and authoritarian countries like Saudi Arabia and China, do not like when regular people gain power.

They bought Twitter to destroy it.

And this applies doubly so to the tech journalists who keep interviewing his malicious ass and are like "gee wow you've lost a lot of value what do you think you'll do to try and recover this? Hehe awkward emoji"

NOTHING. Nothing you damn sycophant. Get your head out of his ass, then get it out of your own (no I don't understand how the physics work and I don't care), and wake the fuck up to what's happening.

If you still, STILL think this was just a billionaire bumbling around not knowing what he was doing, with authoritarian investors backing him up to the tune of BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF INVESTMENT, and none of them have tried to fucking assassinate him, never mind just remove him from power (which they haven't), I have a bridge to sell you.

No, I have a gaggle of bridges to sell you.

No, I have an entire planet's worth of gaggles of bridges to sell you.

Tech press just regurgitating GM's claims of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto being ‘dangerous,' without examining or challenging it, is borderline journalistic malpractice.

This isn't about safety. GM needs the line to go up, so like too many other car companies, they're expanding into service subscriptions and collecting data.

Ok, I am officially starting my job search for gigs in copywriting, content strategy, community management, maybe even something along those lines that intersects with ethical AI.

Freelance or part/full time remote. I have nearly 20 years of experience, mainly working with tech, developers in the Apple community, and a variety of CMSes.

If you know of something I might fit, I’d love to hear about it!

Absolute game changer for doing all kinds of little stuff faster on devices:

Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Haptic Touch

Set it to Fast

Hold your finger on an image in Photos. Or pull down Control Center, then touch on the connectivity widget, then the WiFi icon to see your available networks. Much faster now.

Absolute game changer.

Whelp. A former employee and current product person both give weight to the rumor that for Tumblr has been shelved. Sounds like it comes down to finances and not seeing a ton of value coming from it.

It’s a bummer, but not surprising. Tumblr is still very much in the red and this is an expensive project with, at best, little to no direct benefit to the bottom line.

I appreciate the new, more verbose permission dialog in , when apps ask for access to your data like calendars and contacts.

Notice the user-educational text about how calendar items can contain sensitive data like locations, emails, and notes. Good improvement.

Just figured out a big underlying reason for why I wish more companies (yes, even the big ones) would join and : communication.

Yes, I can email a company. But sadly, customer support teams usually don't get the same access to the rest of the company as social media teams do.

Social media folks are much more often brought into meetings, can get the ear of someone actually involved with product, management, etc.
