QueerAF and Trans+ creative Marty Davies have today announced the launch of the UK’s first Trans+ History Week, scheduled to take place between 6-12 May 2024. Coming just before Pride month, Trans+ History Week will provide an opportunity to reflect and learn from history and apply its learnings to our present. The week aims to be a reflective period to learn and celebrate the momentous and millennia-old history…

Morning all! I trust you enjoyed yesterday’s 271 mile EV adventure. This morning you find me in Dumbarton, where I just checked out of the Premier Inn, headed north on a clear and sunny day. There may be something for James Bond fans later but, first there is Loch Lomond

Libs of TikTok Founder Calls 16-Year-Old’s Death ‘Tragic’ but Tells Taylor Lorenz That Nonbinary People Shouldn’t Receive Gender-Affirming Care

“The nearly hour-long interview is meandering and confusing throughout, though through no fault of Lorenz’s. Raichik, who makes a living creating and pushing her own content, repeatedly failed to put together coherent thoughts or to even answer a question.”

I can’t believe it. I went to use the PatientAccess app and suddenly, without much explanation, it wants me to CHOOSE and set up an authenticator app — making the service even harder to log in to than it already was. The NHS and its surrogates are so obsessed with security (far more than banks) to the extent they’re making their useless app, with almost zero functionality, practically unusable. Suppose I was in a panic to book an appointment? This is a huge senseless barrier to usability.

LAST CHANCE TO HEAR… about the heyday of when there were annual LGBT Health conferences and people came from all over to learn about how to make the NHS work for us and do better. I was there to co-chair these particular proceedings in 2010 and also to document the spirit in sound. My Podcast will be shutting down soon so be sure to download the recordings you want to keep and preserve. https://podcast.plain-sense.co.uk/e/the-lgbt-health-summit-2010/

So I’ve added another week without plugging my EV in to charge. That makes seven weeks in all. As I’m still on 39% (after starting with 80% on 27th Oct) I’m in no hurry to grab the plug. I have a longish errand next week so I may plug in after that.

If you’d like to watch a lot of Tories losing their seats here is the BBC’s election night coverage from 1997. It’s a good way of deciding how long you’d need to stay up to see the same this year, or whether your best bet is to go to bed and just get up early instead.

Good morning. I’m fifty miles from home at 9am and on a fresh EV adventure this week. I just need to sneak past the guard tower.

Since getting my new EV in April I’ve been carefully charting the energy used against mileage and that which was put in via either public or home charging. So far, in almost 1700 miles, I’ve used a net 391kWh of energy to move the car along. “Net” because we measure energy after deducting what’s put back into the battery through regenerative braking. The thing that puzzled me, however, was that the charge I’d put in was 471kWh. Of course 45kWh of that 80kWh is what’s still in the battery..

J K Rowling calls trans soccer official a crossdressing straight man for no reason.

Look, even Elon Musk has advised her to get some other interests. It’s quite the journey she’s been on but she’s not alone and one day I’m sure psychiatrists will write books about this and other phenomena of our time.

So in the last few days we’ve seen a moon lander that landed upside down followed by a lander that tripped over its legs and landed on its side. I appreciate the achievement in not simply making two fresh craters but I don’t think we should get the bunting out until moon landers start reliably landing the right way up, like they did in my day. There is a right way up for a reason.

Well this is a new one. I’ve talked about ‘Saving Sessions’, where Octopus customers get encouraged to turn discretionary loads OFF to limit peak loads (we had one tonight between 5-6pm). This is a new mass influence campaign where you get incentivised to charge your EV when there’s an over abundance of variable renewables. Again, we’ve got more wind power than the grid knows what to do with this evening so it will be interesting to see how this goes

Proof (not that it’s needed) that there’s one born every minute. Still, it’s not going to make much of a dent in the bill at this rate. $263K in two days.

“We can’t be decent to trans people because of all the bad people.”

Who is Badenoch trying to kid? The women and equalities minister said predators were exploiting legal loopholes. This is one rhetorical step from “ban all trans people as it’s the only way to be sure”

Ponder for a moment those people who invent hashtags on social media calling for this or that business to be boycotted. Sure, they get a little dopamine hit from being boosted by their tiny group of mutual boosters and being briefly a trending topic. But then, surely, they must go past branches of the businesses they’ve tried to ‘cancel’ or regard the hated merchandise on a shelf and a few brain cells must register that ordinary folk are buying just as normal. That evidence of failure must hurt.

Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield looks at why Elon Musk is holding the Tesla board over a barrel for more power. This report starts with an explanation of what’s going on (Musk says he’ll take the AI stuff somewhere else if the board doesn’t boost his stock to 25%) and Nikki’s own suggestions as to why are at the end.

China makes some insanely cheap electric vehicles — partly through control of the whole supply chain and government support, but also because the west’s manufacturers are getting us to pay for their transition with collective overpricing. The Chinese haven’t replicated their low prices in the west … yet. Maybe they don’t want the pushback yet for perceived dumping. However, western companies have that threat hanging over their P&Ls.

This afternoon the outdoor temperature just grazed 16 degrees C. At 15 deg I can go out without a coat so I declare that PROPER Spring has arrived. Unfortunately that meant I also had to go out and finish deadheading and raking before the green stuff erupts. I’ve left all the old dead stalks out for the birds, who sounded very horny and in need of building materials.

No, M&S haven’t ’just launched’ an LGBT sandwich - it came out in 2019

I swear a part of society is having some kind of mental breakdown, unable to cope with a bit of inclusiveness and change. These are the same people who lust romantically for the days when we were in a world war and everyone was supposedly endowed with a stiff upper lip. They wouldn’t have coped.

Apparently we may be about to learn about the secret investors in Trump’s properties as New York moves to seize control of the assets. It’s been an open secret that the fake ‘billionaire’ doesn’t fully own his flashy properties outright but nobody is sure of the extent to which the former president has been in hoc to people like Putin through his control of oligarchs.
